George has been sitting in the dark for hours lost in thougts. "How did I end up in this type of mess" kept asking himself. "What did I do wrong exactly?" "The only wrong I can think of here is that I loved her in excess." "Is it wrong to love without reservations?" "Is this really the end to love?" Thougts like these flooded through his mind for hours. The alarm from a a wall clock jolted him out of his lost. He looked at the clock, 4:12 it says. "So I've been like this for about eight hours?" He wondered out loud.
"The best thing to do is to sell off everything and leave this country." He finally concluded his thoughts. He stood up and went into the bathroom to freshen up. Whilst still in the bathroom, he heard his phone ringing. "Who could the caller be at this hour of the day?" he thought himself. He rushed out of the bathroom with just towel round his waist. Before he could reach the phone, the caller has dropped. He checked his phone to see who the caller was, but it was a blocked ID.
As he was heading back to the bathroom, his phone rang again. This time he picked it, but said nothing. There was silence from the other end of the line too. The silence lingered for about fifteen seconds before he finally asked "who is this and how may I help you?" George it's me" said a very familiar female voice from the other end. "The source of my misery" he thought to himself. "Angela?" He asked, even when it's too obvious. "Yes, it's me Angela." The caller replied from the other end. "I've been trying to reach you for days now without success." "What happened to your phone?" "Why are you calling me with a concealed phone ID?"
"George, I stopped using that line so that you won't bother me." "I've told you, I cannot love you." "Truth is that I'm seeing someone now. We understand each other better than the way it was with me and you. I've moved on, it's time you moved on too." A brief moment of silence followed. "Are you still there?" She broke the the silence. "Yeah..." he answered resignedly. "Where do I go from here now" he continued. "I don't know. And honestly, it shouldn't be my problem now is it?" She replied.
"Is this how we're throwing away seven beautiful years, just because of a stranger...?" "Hey! Hey!! Hey!!!" She cuts him off. "Never you refer to Andy as a stranger again." Soon, I'll be traveling out of the country. The dowry money and items you and your people brought last month, I've instructed my people to return everything to your people. Thank God we had a low key engagement. At least, people will hardly notice anything." As for the money you used in training me through school, once I balance myself pay you all the money back." As for the house that you built for my family in the village, there's nothing I can say about that for now..."
"Angela you're very wicked and heartless." He cuts her shut. "Honestly, a vampire is a saint compared to you. I met you when you were hawking food for Nwanyi Nkanu. I stopped you from hawking after seeing how the trade stresses you. Sent you back to school. Trained you through school. Obviously, you know that my parents are still living in my uncle's house in the village, yet I went ahead to build a house for your family when they have no roof over there head in the village. I paid for two of your siblings school fees for the past two years."
When your younger brother Ikem was sent away by his master without settlement, your parents were thinking of sending him off to serve someone else at his age. I vehemently rejected that idea, and subsequently raised six hundred thousand Naira for him to start his own with. How many times have I sent money for your parents' health care. Tell me, which member of your family who hasn't benefitted from me one way or the other? How many times have I given you money for something only for you to come back with one story or the other about how you misplaced the money hence making me to send you another money?"
"Don't you think you're hurting yourself the more by recounting all these things?" "That's all in the past." Besides, on the account of the misplaced monies you mentioned about, I had use those excuses to raise money for Andy." "We've been dating before you came into the picture. Don't you think you've been unfair to Andy all these years?" I've been his woman all these while, yet he allowed me to sleep with you at will just because he loves beyond your comprehension."
