The alarm rang out loud. It was monday morning. I closed my eyes again, imagining dropping out of school. It sounded tempting enough, but I wouldn't flee, never. I put my ugly school clothes on and went down to eat some breakfast. My siblings were fighting about the cereals. I heaved a sigh and decided to skip breakfast today, so I went up to my bathroom to put some make up on. 'Mummyyyyy, tell him stop!' I heard Lily scream as I put on mascara. I discovered it was easier just ignoring the existence of my family then to deal with the problems. Ten minutes later I walked down the stairs, and left the house without saying goodbye to anyone.
...
I walked down the school corridor. People looking at me, but not only looking, but staring as I walked by. When a girl, two years younger then me, even nudged her friend so that she could also stare I said: 'It's rude to stare, you know' I smiled icily towards them. Most people looked away. I reached my locker, Alice had her locker next to mine, she was standing there, and so was Kate, Bella and Jess. It looked as if Alice was going to say something; but a jab in the ribs from Kate made her close her mouth. I rolled my eyes, grabbed by stuff and went to sit and wait by the media classroom. The corridor was empty. I sat down and picked up my phone.
'Alex, hi!'
It was Jai. I felt my mood rise rapidly and I rose to greet him. To my surprise, he pulled me in for a hug. 'Hello Jai' I smiled at him. Luke approached from behind. 'Uhm, hello Alexandra, I haven't been nice to you. Jai explained the, eh, situation for me yesterday, and uhm, I'm sorry' He looked rather ashamed, and I thought I could make out a tiny bruising on his left cheek. Had Jai..? 'It's OK Luke, no worries.' I smiled genuinely. I chatted happily with Jai, Luke and their friends Maax and Andrew. Then my old friends showed up.
'Girls, have you notice how well Alex blends in with the geeks?' said Bella with a nasty grin on her face.
'Yeah, I didn't really fit in with you lot, guess you need an IQ lower than 20' I sad in a sarcastically sad way. Luke tried to hide his laughter with a faked cough attack. The girls just eyed me with disgust and sat down on a bench at the other side of the corridor. I couldn't care less. I was having more fun with the boys on this lesson than I had with the girls over a year. Luke was the funniest guy once you go to know him. We were jokingly mocking Jai about his habit of flattening his hair, and luke was doing such a good impression of Jai I was almost crying with laughter until Mr. Johnson told us either to shut up, or leave the classroom. I could see that the girls were casting me irratated looks, except for Alice, who looked... sad?
'Want me to follow you to your next class?' Jai asked.
'Sure!' I smiled. Jai took my hand, and suddenly I felt... confused. Did he think us already as a couple? Was this what I really wanted? of course you want this, you stupid cunt. said a voice in my hand. I decided to trust my instincts, and I clutched his hand tigher in mine. I could hear the boys wolf whistle, and I saw Jai blush.
'Fuck you' I told them and smiled.
Jai and I decided to meet up to lunch, but first I had history... Alice was the only girl in my former gang who also took this class. I sat by myself, when a girl I didn't know the name of came facing me. She was about my height, she had beautiful brown hair and big brown eyes,
'Just so you know, most people on this school thought what you did, I mean defending the Janoskians was pretty cool, standing up to those cows.'
'Oh, well, thanks..uhm?' She smiled at me. I noticed that she had dimples.
'It's Lea'
