Denki frowned as he looked for the bright green sign advertising Starbucks. He didn't understand why his friends had sent him—the only student who was not fluent in English—to get coffee for the rest of them.
It made no sense.
He chuckled to himself, nodding at a passing couple as he walked by, and returned to his task of locating the evasive coffee shop. Why was this so difficult?
His phone buzzed in his pocket, causing him to jump.
"Hello?" He answered it.
"Did you find Starbucks yet?" Maria's beautiful voice chimed over the phone's speaker. "Everybody is caffeine-deprived." She giggled.
Denki blushes slightly as his heart leaped upon hearing his fiance's voice. "Im having trouble finding it," he admitted. "All these signs look the same."
Maria sighed. "It's a dark green sign with a white lady on the front," she tried to explain. "It should be near that glass shop we passed by."
Denki's eyes lit up as he spotted the glass shop and, just to the left, Starbucks. He frowned. "Is that really a lady on the sign?" he asked in confusion, staring at the green sign looming over him.
Maria laughed. "I'll see you in a minute okay?" she told him with a smile.
Denki smiled back as his cheeks grew warm at the thought of seeing her again. "I love you," he told him, pushing the door open with his shoulder and ending the call. He got in line to order as his eyes darted back to his phone screen. Cole had texted him a list of drinks to order. He squinted his eyes and quietly tried to pronounce the first item on the list.
What the heck was a unicorn Cappuccino?
"Watashi wa eigo o hanasenai," he heard the person in front of him splutter in flawless Japanese. "Watashi wa chōdo kōhī ga hoshī!"
His head immediately shot up in surprise at hearing his native language and, without a second thought, he reached out to tap the man on the shoulder. He was about to offer help when the man turned around, but he froze.
Those eyes.
That spiky red hair.
Those sharp teeth.
"E-eijiro?!" he gasped in shock.
Eijiro's eyes widened in recognition and a huge grin spread across his face. He reached his arms out and pulled his friend into a tight embrace as happy tears sprung into his eyes. "You're alive!" he shouted excitedly, strangling his friend. "I can't believe you're alive!" he pulled away and turned to stare at his friend, confusion shining in his eyes. "What are you doing in America?!"
Denki coughed and struggled against his friend's strong grip, trying to breathe. "P-put me down," the blond told him, "and I'll answer your questions."
Eijiro nodded and released his death grip on his friend before dragging him to a table and sitting him down. "Alright," he grinned, "tell me everything."
Five hours later...
"So Omegas are, like, young pro heroes only they're born really powerful right?"
Denki nodded as he nursed his coffee. "Apparently they're sought after by villains," he explained, fingering a large scar running down his neck, "which is why the school is based in America rather than Japan and kept secret from everyone else." His fingers sparked with electricity as it jumped across his hand. "Who'd have guessed I was an Omega?"
Eijiro shrugged, leaning back in his chair. His face lit up and he abruptly leaped out of his seat. "We need to tell the others that you're alive!" he exclaimed, pulling Denki out of his chair. "They're gonna be so excited!"
Denki stumbled to his feet, wincing it pain as his arm was violently twisted, and struggled to keep up with his excited friend. "I guess so," he admitted with a smile, "I haven't seen them in forever!" he frowned as they rushed out of the coffee shop. "What are you doing in Washington?" he asked as Eijiro slowed his pace to accommodate his friend.
"It was a graduation trip," he answered with a smile as he threw an arm around his friend's shoulders. "Who'd have guessed I'd run into you like this?" he laughed. "Wait until we tell the others! They're gonna be so happy to see you! We all missed you so much!"
Denki's eyes lit up and a smile grew on his lips. "You really missed me?" he asked quietly.
"Of course we did!" Eijiro responded. "You're part of our class! You're our friend!"
Denki's eyes softened and he smiled. "Thanks," he responded, "I really missed you guys."
Eijiro smiled back. "We missed you too."
Suddenly, a long arm reached from an alley and grabbed Denki with an iron grip, pulling him back into the darkness.
Eijiro's head snapped back and his eyes widened. "Denki?!" he screamed before sprinting down the alley his friend had disappeared down. "Denki!" he skidded to a stop and his eyes widened. Denki was pinned to the back wall of the alley, a knife pressed against his throat, by a large villain. Bulging muscles glared back at him threateningly as the villain turned to look at him. A forked tongue flicked out from between his lips and brushed against Denki's cheek, causing the teen to cringe and struggle against the villain's iron grip.
Eijiro felt his skin harden and his hands sharpen instinctively as he gritted his teeth. "Let him go!" he shouted, causing the villain to turn to face him with a toothy grin.
The villain clamped an iron fist around Denki's neck and pressed the knife closer to his throat, causing the sharp edge to draw blood. "Why should I?" he challenged. "What are you going to do?"
Eijiro clenched his fists as his eyes met Denki's. "I...I..." he trailed off, shaking. "Let him go!" he shouted.
"Or what?" the villain countered, tightening his grip, causing Denki to gasp in pain as his vision blurred.
"O-or...o-or..." he gritted his teeth, trying to formulate a proper response to the challenge. He glared at the villain with eyes full of burning fury. "Or I'll kill you," he growled, fingers sharp and ready to attack.
The villain laughed heartily and threw his hands out in a gesture of mock surrender. "Come and get me!" he laughed.
Eijiro growled and lunged at the villain, ready to knock Denki out of his grasp. The villain ducked out of the way and swung an arm around, grabbing Eijiro by the head and slamming it into the brick wall.
Everything went black.
