The last thing Edward ever expected was for his wife Julia to come home before the time she was actually supposed to come. Julia ran out of their apartment as fast as her small legs permitted her to. Edward not caring about the lady that laid on his bed, hurried to put some clothes on and run after his wife. It all happened in the blink of an eye. Julia's agonizing scream was the first thing Edward heard before his world came crumbling down.

Edward ran to Julia's side and picked her head up from the pavement and laid it on his lap. "Come on baby, stay with me please." This was the only words Edward could form at the moment as tears flowed down his face. He slowly removed the hair that was plaster on her forehead with blood. Julia gasped for air in Edward's arms, he kept reassuring her that everything was going to be okay. In what looked like hours for Edward but were just mere minutes, the paramedics finally showed up.

"Sir, please step aside". The paramedic slowly helped the still in shock Edward to his feet. Edward watched as they rolled his wife away into the ambulance. Edward's chest tightened with guilt and sorrow. Julia was never supposed to find out about his mistress.

This was all his fault and if Julia did not make it he will never forgive himself.

"Sir, are you coming?" Edward came out of his trance and slowly nodded; he followed them into the ambulance and they rapidly drove away. Edward watched as the paramedics assisted Julia, one covered her face with an oxygen mask and the other one checked her vitals. We have a pulse but it's weak. Said one of the paramedics, Edward looked as she slowly injected Julia's arm with an IV and handed him the bag. "Hold this just like this," she grabbed Edward's arm as he still held onto the bag that contained a clear liquid which he was unsure of what it was. "Can you tell me her name and her age?" She asked, Edward swallowed hard and answered, "h-her name is Julia Knight and she's 25." The paramedic nodded and continued to assist Julia.

They finally reached the hospital and the paramedic took the bag out of Edward's hands.

"Julia Knight, mid-twenties. She was involved in a hit and run, her pulse is weak. She is nonresponsive, possible broken ribs and right arm." The doctors rushed Julia in and Edward's heart kept breaking in tiny little pieces.

They asked Edward to wait in the waiting room while they performed surgery on Julia.

The doctor finally came out after 6 hours. I'm doctor Jefferson, "I'm sorry Mr. Knight I did everything I could, unfortunately, your wife and the baby have passed away." Edward shook his head and looked at the doctor confused. "No, no. She can't be gone. Please doctor tell me that you're lying." Edward fell to his knees and started rocking back and forth. "Wait, you said baby?" He asked the doctor who looked down at him with pity in his eyes. "Yes, your wife was pregnant. She did not tell you?" Doctor Jefferson asked and Edward started crying.

All Edward could think about was how for his selfish ways he had lost his wife and his unborn baby.

Doctor Jefferson patted Edward's shoulder before walking away. Edward's heart felt like someone had physically ripped it out of his chest and had crushed it right in front of him. He felt empty and numb at the same time. He stood in the ground and wiped his tears away.

She was really gone.

Edward thought about how his precious Julia did not deserve this. She deserved someone better than him, someone, who would have treated her like the princess she was, not someone who would cheat on her behind her back.

Was it really worth it? Edward said to himself, his voice cracking at the end. He had lost the most important person in his life.

He had lost his partner and best friend. Julia was the only person Edward had left after his family had died in a car crash five years ago; and here he came, ruining the only good thing he had in his life.
