mommy parked by a playground, which looked oddly familiar, but i couldn't remember from where i recognized it.

"we're going to walk the rest of the way, honey. it's not that far; just a block up the street." mommy said as she helped me out the car.

she grabbed my suitcase in one hand and offered me the other; i happily held it.

the phone mommy gave me buzzed softly in my front pocket. i didn't check it; i just wanted to spend the moment with mommy.

it buzzed again shortly after.

"tyler, i love you." mommy told me with the softest of smiles.

"i love you too."

tears started to form in her eyes as she continued.

"you're my special boy, ty. no one will ever replace you; you have such a big piece of my heart, baby. these three years have been a few of the best in my life. i'm glad brendon found you when he did, so glad you're alive. i'm so glad we got to meet you and take care of you and raise you. i'm happy that i had you as my little baby boy, and that you agreed to be mine since i can't have kids myself. i want you to know that this isn't your fault. it's not your fault that we have to let you go back home, alright? i just can't let brendon continue to do this to you; i never should've agreed to it, but i just wanted a child!" she took a deep breath and let me silently cry as we walked. "we both need to grow past this, move on. it'll be good for us, y'know? i'm so sorry, ty, honey."

"'m sorry, mommy." i hiccuped.

we stopped walking by a tall shrub.

"you'll be fine, prince." she said with a small smile. "it'll all be okay."

i sniffled, and she wiped away my tears with her thumbs.

"we're here."

i looked around at the house. it seemed familiar. i didn't know what to do.

i outstretched my arms, and we hugged for what seemed like hours.

mommy kissed my forehead as tears dropped off her cheeks.

she handed me my suitcase and waved goodbye to me, sending me up the stone path up to the white front door.

i knocked.

a dirty blonde, middle aged woman opened the door with a frown.

i froze. i didn't know what to say!

the woman's face lightened, and, suddenly, she processed my face and gasped, tears spilling from her eyes.

"tyler, is that really you?" she cried.

"mama?"

the woman brought her arms around me, holding me close to her chest, crying.

i smiled, hugging her back. she did miss me!

she turned her face to look behind her, still embracing me. "chris, get over here! tyler's home!"

i turned my head to side, my smile still present, but mommy wasn't by the shrub anymore.

she was gone.
