Driving in LA was no easy feat, especially with a deadline. Tapping her fingers against the steering wheel impatiently, Bridgette glanced at the clock on her dashboard for what felt like the fifth time in the last minute, biting her lip in frustration as she noticed the time. Only ten more minutes till she had to meet with Chantelle and this traffic light was determined to ruin her morning. Staring at the light, she willed it to turn green, giving it out a squeal of delight when it did. Pressing down on the gas pedal, she hurried through the LA streets much faster than she should have, especially considering her sister's position in the LAPD, and pulled into her school's parking lot, hastily parking the car and climbing out of the vehicle.
Smoothening out her skirt with one hand, she hurried through the nearly empty parking lot, making her way inside the school, her heels click clacking against the tile. Considering that it was only seven thirty in the morning, the high school was surprisingly empty, with not even a janitor to be seen. The white lights cast an eerie glow against the white tiles as Bridgette made her way down to the main office, too caught up in figuring out what Chantelle would tell her to notice the odd setting.
Almost too soon, Bridgette arrived at the main office, her hand faltering above the door handle in nervousness. What if this meeting was about her resignation? Shaking her head, Bridgette pushed those thoughts out of her mind. The text she received earlier this morning was friendly enough and she had to trust Chantelle to make the right decision. Letting out a breath, she pushed the door open, frowning as she noticed that Mrs. Lee, the school secretary, was missing from her desk. Dismissing the absence, Bridgette moved further into the office, unable to shake the feeling that something was wrong. When she arrived in front of Chantelle's door, Bridgette raised her hand to knock, her frown deepening when no one answered.
Raising her knuckles to the door again, she rapped against the wood, "Mrs. Miller? It's Bridgette, I'm here about the meeting?" She called out, biting the inside of her cheek at the empty response. Glancing down at her watch, she hesitantly pushed down on the door handle, swinging the door open before stepping inside the office. The sight that awaited her would be permanently etched into her memory forever.
There was Chantelle Miller, sprawled against the floor, a knife sticking out of the centre of her chest and blood staining the yellow carpet and the walls around her. Upon the sight of the body, Bridgette's legs gave out beneath her and she fell to the floor, her eyes widening in fear and shock. "Chantelle?" She called out, her voice unable to sound above a whisper. Hands shaking, she reached towards the body, her mind finally recognizing the scene in front of her. "Chantelle?!" She called out more urgently this time, her body unconsciously crawling towards the woman and hands clasping on the Chantelle's shoulders as if it would miraculously wake her.
"This can't be happening, Chantelle? Please is somebody there?! She needs help!" Her voice was shrill as she called out for someone, anyone to wake her from this nightmare. Tears began to stream down her cheeks and Bridgette could feel herself reaching a level of hyperventilation. "Ple-Please somebody!" She called out again in between sobs, her fingers unable to let go of Chantelle's blazer jacket. Looking around frantically, Bridgette tried to locate anything that she could use, her eyes landing on the phone on top of the table. Chloe - the police, Bridgette needed to call the police. She needed the police- her sister, she needed her sister. Pushing away from the body with shaky legs, she grasped onto the telephone and dragged it down to the floor in front of her, her hands slick with Chantelle's blood as she dialled nine-one-one.
"Hello? Ple- You- Chantelle- She's-" Bridgette was unable to form coherent sentences and her words came out in gasps between her breaths, her eyes still glued to the body of her dead boss.
"Ma'am? I'm going to need you to -"
"My bo- Chantelle, she's dead. A knife - there's a knife sticking out of her chest- please you need to send someone!"
Working through the call, she finally managed to give the operator the necessary information, and she clutched the phone tighter to her ear when he told her that the police are on their way. Moving towards Chantelle again, she frowned at the sight of the white paper that stuck out of Chantelle's blazer pocket. In the chaos of finding the body, she missed it completely but now, there it was, out of place in the bloody scene, as if it were placed there after the stabbing.
Reaching forward, she pulled the paper out of Chantelle's pocket against her better judgement, one hand still wrapped tightly against the telephone handle. Opening it with one hand, she glanced at the words on the page. It was a message cut out of newspaper clippings like she'd seen before on TV, the letters spelling out:
I D I D T H I S F O R Y O U.
Bridgette dropped the paper like it had stung her, shivers tingling down her spine. Could the note have been for her? All of a sudden, a wave of tremors began down her spine as she recalled the feelings of being watched for the past few months. She had waved it all off as her imagination but now as she stared down at Chantelle's body she couldn't help but wonder if this happened because of her.

Author's note | "And I brought you Murh - MURDER!" Haha :) That's literally one of my favourite vines ever. Anyways, what did you guys think of chapter two? Chantelle is now out of the picture (no new standardized tests woo hoo I guess?) and what could that mysterious message mean? *wiggling eyebrows*. I started school again recently and let me tell you this semester is a heavy one :( I might not be able to post to a schedule but I'll update as often as I can. Hope you have a lovely day, I'll see you again next week!
