The violet rose

It started some time ago, the nightmares. Thy started out small and happened about twice a month. Then they started getting worse the closer it got to my 18th birthday. They became more frequent and more violent. But it's always the same nightmare. The same icy blue eyes in the shadows of the forest watching my every move. The same violet rose in the middle of a dead meadow. The same chilling screams of the people I love and care about. And the haunting smell of death and rot.

I wake up to the sound of continuous knocks on my door. "Go away" I yell as I roll over and put my pillow over my head.
"If you don't open this door right now Lexi I swear to god I will kick it down" a voice says behind the door,a voice that could only belong to a certain blond.                                                         I roll my eyes and slowly get out of bed to let in my best friend. I unlatch the locks and slowly open the door. "What do you want Nicky, I was trying to sleep." I say to her while she bustles in with a handful of random fabrics and beads and plops then on my bed.                                         "See I knew you would forget!" She dramatically yells while sorting through the jumble of stuff she threw on my bed. "We have less than two weeks to figure out what we are wearing to the queens ball and you haven't even decided what dress to wear!"                            I roll my eyes at her once again and walk to the small kitchen in my cottage. "That's because I don't even want to go to the ball Nicky, I was thinking about skipping it this year and just staying home and get a little bit more training in." I tell her. I grab two plates from the cupboard and set them down on the counter while getting stuff out to make us sandwiches. "You are forgetting something very important lex, the princes from the 5 kingdoms are gonna be there and it's mandatory for everyone to go. So you can't skip!"                                                      I sigh cursing myself for forgetting about that damn rule. "Fine, I'll go but I'm not wearing anything revealing got it?" Nicky gives me a wicked smile and turns back to her sorting.
