Kali Iris's POV
I hopped into my rusty, black, about twenty year old mustang and speed down the road to the Curtis's.
Now I didn't steal it or barrow it permanently. I bought it with my own money from a used car place. I work in a factor. A can factory to be exact. We package green beans and corn. I put the labeling on everything. Sodapop wants me to quit because he says it too dangerous for a girl. But I'm gonna prove him wrong.
I spend a majority of time on their couch when I'm not working on Mondays or Wednesdays. The gang all knows about my home life. When it looks like I've been crying, which is almost always, they walk around glass by me.
It was 'bout 5:30 so soda and Steve should be home soon.
I pulled up hopefully leaving enough space for Darry's car. I whipped my back pack out if the trunk. Let's just get this out in the open. I'm stupid. Possibly the dumbest person in Tulsa. I bet a third grader is smarter than me.
It was pretty loud in their house today.
So I just sat on the porch about to tear my world history book apart. Nothing makes sense. I can never comprehend anything. I threw my book, literally across the yard. And whipped out a cigarette.
"Loose something?" Sodapop said through the railing of the porch. I rolled my eyes swiping the book out of his hands.
"Geez. Kali. Why don't you just take a break. It helps to take a step back sometimes. Anyways how can you see in this lighting?" he asked sitting by me putting his arm around me scooting me closer.
"Sodapop. Am I stupid?" I said not responding to anything he said.
"No. Just challenged. We all are challenged. I can barely write and read. Nor do I smoke. Why do you do that to your beautiful body?" he motioned to my cigarette.
I shifted uncomfortably when he said I was 'beautiful'
"It doesn't matter. I'm gonna die one day. So what if I ruin my body" I shrugged. He turned me to face him.
"You're so worth life. You have a long life time ahead of you. Now put that thing out and let's go get ice cream." He instructed. Ice cream really did sound good but I'm trying to loose more weight.
"I'm on a diet" I completely made up an excuse and turned away so i didn't see his face. Soda stood up and pulled on my arms. "No you're not. You're too skinny already. Come on" he pulled and struggled to get me up. His thumbs were on my wrists. He was putting a lot of pressure on my cuts. Any second if I don't get his hands off of my wrists they are gonna come open.
"Fine soda I'll go but I'm not getting anything. Let me. Uh let me use the bathroom first" I said clutching my wrist so the blood didn't come through my shirt.
"Everything alright. I didn't hurt you right?" he asked worriedly. 'No I did' I muttered to myself.
"Nope everything is fine" I fake a smile. Like I do everyday.
A/n
It's so hard for me not to write her just jump into his arms and marry him ugh. But then their would be no story line about self harm.
