As a child, Jackline never knew her mom. Her father never answered when she asked, so she eventually stopped asking. Every time she tried to get along with her father, it ended in disaster. So she eventually avoided him as much as she could. Jackline's father always had a short temper, which almost costed his job in the police force a few times. Little did his co-workers know, it didn't end at work. Jackline eventually came up with a plan as she got older on how to avoid her father. She learned more ways to avoid him the longer time went on. One day, when she was 12, she found something under a floor board while getting into the shabby two bedroom apartment she called home. It was a sketch book filled with beautiful pictures. Each picture signed with a pair of wings, the same pair that was marked on her back from birth. She then realized it was her mother's sketches. She then took to drawing. It made her feel whole for once in her life, and she never let her father find out. One day, sadly, she came home from school to find the most horrific sight she could ever think of. Her mother's and her own sketch book were in a trash can outside the apartments, all on fire. The smell of cigarette smoke was there, and the scent was familiar. It was her fathers brand of cigarettes. She dashed up the fire escape to her room, crying. She tried to fit her petite body through the window like she did everyday, but as soon as she hit the floor her father came in. He was smoking (as usual) and took the cigarette out of his mouth. He yelled at her saying "Art is not aloud in this house under any circumstances! I don't care if you draw it, find it, or buy it! It's not gonna stay in this house!" He pressed the cigarette against her neck to put it out. She was used to it at that point. She then bandaged the burn and went back to her room. Jackline pushed her dresser in front of the door after locking it to insure her own safety. One question she'd always ask herself before falling asleep was "Where's Mom?" She knew she'll never get an answer.
