First and foremost, it is essential to accumulate Groschen. The currency doesn't have much value and it can seem disheartening at times to look at the prices traders ask.
Although Henry is the son of a blacksmith. He is still a peasant and due to his pursuit to become a badass he can't get a job per se. However, quick and easy ways to acquire coins are present.
Now bear with me here, flower picking. I know it seems menial and tedious but if you know what flowers to look for, and where to find them it becomes a rather easy and rewarding way to get ahead financially in the early stages and for my first installment of this guide I'm going to teach you exactly that.If you have taken the time to stop and collect flowers already, you will obviously already notice how much they're worth by simply checking your inventory. However, by reading the little blurb it will sometimes also tell you where in general terms the flower in question can be found.
Thistle and Nettle are likely to be the first plants you encounter on the roadside. To be frank, they're worth sweet fuck all and I barely give them the time of day.
The plants that should be first and foremost are Sage, Wormwood and Marigold.
Why? All are abundant, easy to spot and worth the time to run around picking.
Let's start easy, Sage. It's e v e r y w h e r e and is worth your time clocking in at 1.2 Groschen a plant.
So what does it look like - and where can you find it? Sage is a green plant with a lovely dark purple flower protruding from the centre. As for where it can be found, this is where the blurb on the plant in-game can mislead you. According to blurb, it can be found on hillsides and while this is true, it's also going to limit your search.
For certain. Hillsides are a definite, but I've found it often crops up in small clusters near homes on the outskirts of Rattay. And frequently near the edges of streams.
Wormwood, also worth your time. It's worth every penny (2.2 Groschen to be exact) and is easier to spot than Sage. Just so happens that I also have real life knowledge about this plant making it a personal favorite (fun fact in real life, you can smoke this plant fully legally in every country and it enhances your dreams, making them far more vivid, lucid and easier to recollect). Back on topic however, the plant unlike Sage has no leaves and is a pale white flower standing upright on a stalk. Normally located on hillsides or near roads it often seemlessly blends in with another plant of similar appearance, Valerian, which is not worth anywhere near the price of Wormwood. But, if you're in the neighborhood, just pick both...ultimately it's still worth something and you can't really complain about that.
Lastly, for all my alcoholic Henry's out there. Marigold. Used to make the hangover cure.
This plant is on this list despite only being worth a stingy 0.5 Groschen because it's by far one of the easiest to spot and I can give you exact directions on where to find lots of it and in abundance along with a bunch of other plants ( shout out to all my herbalists out there). As you probably can tell from the name Marigold, the plant is golden....like obviously golden. From a distance, unlike Dandelions which are a faint golden yellow and much smaller (and the biggest waste of time and energy).
When searching for this plant generally, think fertile land. Farms, dung piles that kind of vibe. But to help out the beginners. Progress with the story, until you reach Rattay. Walk up from the Millers toward the town, when you approach the gate, you'll notice an encampment to your left, when this comes into view, hang a sharp right. Head down the hill, across the road, across the stream. Head up the opposing rise and violà you arrive at a pig farm. Along the fence there is a ton of Marigold and also herbs in a garden if you jump the fence which are free for the taking and earn you some cha-ching.
Hopefully this first installment helps you get a better grasp of herbalism. It's something I'm personally very interested in and if you want more, be sure to tell me and I'll gladly talk more on the subject. Otherwise, installment two will be delving deeper into the wild to find coin, bending nature for personal gain.
If you have played the game and noticed a mistake don't be afraid to correct me, I'm doing this by myself and everyone is bound to make mistakes. Have a fantastic day and remember, be the best Henry you can.
