Melvin vs Atem: The Kitten's Dilemma

Yugi's POV

[The next morning] I sat on the coffee table, cleaning my fur. I looked up as a knock on the door caught my attention. Atem walked up to the door and opened it "good morning Atem, may we come in?" A familiar voice asked. "Of course Joey, Tea, Tristan, Marvin, Kura" he replied letting in his friends. "Yuugi, our friends are here" Atem shouted as I climbed down the steps that Atem had placed against the table so I could get up and down. I sprinted over to my best friend, climbed up him and sat on his shoulder. I didn't recognize two of the humans and tilted my head confused "oh these are my other friends, Marvin and Kura. Kura, Marvin, this is my best friend Yuugi" Atem said. I climbed down into Atem's hand before signaling for him to move his hand closer to the two humans. I sniffed Marvin and hissed, I did the same to Kura. "Oh dear, he's never hissed at anyone before" Atem said confused. I climbed down onto the puzzle around Atem's neck before swiping at Kura's millennium ring and hissed. "Oh, he must be sensing the powers of the millennium items" Atem replied. I was staring intently at the dark spirits standing beside Kura and Melvin. I growled frightened, hissing at the two spirits. The two spirits stared at me "the kitten can see us Baku" one said to the other. "He's not a threat to us Malik, he's only a tiny cute kitten" Baku cooed at me. "Are you friend or foe?" I mewed curious. "We're friend" Malik answered. "What's your name little one?" Baku asked. "My name is Yuugi" I purred happily. "That's an adorable name, doesn't that mean game though?" Baku questioned. "Yes, I love games" I replied. "You're so sweet and innocent. I love you already" Baku said gently petting my head. I purred nuzzling his hand "Hmmm? What are you purring at and nuzzling Yuugi?" Atem asked confused before movement in the mirror caught the human's attention. "There are two spirits standing beside me, they seem friendly as they're gently petting my little kitten" Atem said. I jolted awake as someone shook me. I looked up at the person suddenly remembering what happened yesterday. "Hello little kitten" they said. "Who are you?" I asked confused. "My name is Arashi, you might hate me when I tell you how I know. I was the mother cat that abandoned you but I was a street cat, my resources were limited and I knew you as the runt wouldn't survive under my care. I'm sorry Yuugi" she said sadly. I stared shocked "I understand, life on the streets are tough. You're the reason I met my life partner, I'm very grateful" I replied. She hugged me "I've felt guilty ever since then, I'm glad you understand. I was afraid you would hate me forever, don't get me wrong I did love you but if you remained with me you would have surely died" Arashi said before waving goodbye. I looked up at the person "Yuugi? I'm going to be returning to New York today and I just wanted to say goodbye" she said sweetly. "I hope we will meet again someday" I replied before she left for good. I stood up and headed out to meet up with my friends. I walked over to my friends, "good morning Yugi" Anzu said sweetly. "Good morning Anzu" I replied. "You ready to go to the park?" Jonouchi asked. I nodded before we walked to the park. As I walked into the park, a baseball struck me in the side of my head "Yugi!" Anzu screamed before I lost consciousness. I smiled at Melvin as he continued to pet my head. [1 month later] I was now a full grown cat, still no bigger than a family size bag of chips. I was walking down the sidewalk with a harness around me. I was walking next to Atem as he headed to work. I stared up at him purring. "Hey Atem!" Melvin shouted, things had been strained between Atem and Melvin as he claimed that Atem chose me over him. I looked up as Melvin became aggressive with Atem, shoving him. I growled before leaping at Melvin's face, he caught me mid jump and drop kicked me. I tumbled into the road, staring in horror as a car came at me. The last thing I remember was hearing Atem screaming my name before my life slipped away. I slowly opened my eyes, Anzu was kneeling next to me looking worried. "Yugi?!" She shouted concerned. I pulled her down to me, "Yugi are you alright, you're shaking" Anzu asked. "No, I just discovered two of my past lives ended early and in terrible ways" I whimpered frightened that it would happen again. *Awww, aibou. I promise to protect you this time, it will be easier since I live within the puzzle* 《ya but that just means that if I die, I drag the four of you with me》 <ya we know but have come to accept it. When you do die we will all go to the afterlife together> +I don't want to go to the afterlife without my sister and brother+ /I could always kill them if Yugi dies before them/ *o.o* 《MOKUBA!》 /yes little prince?/ 《(facepalm) jeez Mokie》 I just realized I most likely stepped over my boundaries. <(growling)> /DON'T EVER CALL ME THAT!/ I yelped frightened. I removed my puzzle, dropped it in Anzu's hands before bolting. I ran without thinking, the screeching of tires was heard before a car slammed into me. Time seemed to slow as I was sent flying over the hood of the car and slammed into the ground. My vision blurred as my strength slipped away. 《《Let me take over, I promise I will save your life》》 《ok》 I replied before slipping into my soul room 《《my precious little angel》》

Fukushū's POV

I took over, using a ability I could only use once every two years. I reversed time, right before the car hit my angel. I spread my wings and flew out of the way. I landed right in front of Yugi's friends. "I might have prevented Yugi from dying but he will feel ill because of my time powers" I said. "What happened Fukushū?" Anzu questioned. "A car hit my angel, I had to take over and use an ability I can only use once every two years" I replied before I flopped over on the ground, feeling my angel's exhaustion mixed with my exhaustion from using my special ability. "Yami, both me and Yugi are too exhausted, one of you will have to take over" I yawned before disappearing into my soul room.

Yami's POV

I took over once the puzzle was around my hikari's neck. *never yell at Yugi, he gets frightened, afraid you will hurt him. It's because of what his father did to him* <I'm really sorry> 《I forgive you Seto》 /I'm sorry as well little prince/ 《it's okay Mokuba》 I looked up at my friends "I'm going home, I promised grandpa that I would help him clean the shop" I said. "You mean Yugi's grandpa?" Jonouchi questioned. "No, I consider him my grandpa too because he's a reincarnation of a person who was like family to me" I replied. 《I'm glad, he thinks of you as his second grandson》 *(purring)* I waved goodbye before heading home.
