Reset number 999. Such an "𝑖𝑚𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑓𝑒𝑐𝑡"  number, isn't it? So was the timeline with that number. 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭. 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐮𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐝. It surely wasn't like the others.

Chara grew more and more tired

Chara grew more and more tired. Frisk's curiosity hasn't drained not even a bit over the time, it grew bigger and bigger with each and every reset. Hoping for something new. Everything was the same though. But nothing could stop Frisk's Determination, and Chara knew that. So she played along.

Together, they took the lives of so many monsters countless of times, slashing that knife across their bodies, leaving them to turn into 𝑎 𝑢𝑠𝑒𝑙𝑒𝑠𝑠 𝑝𝑖𝑙𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑑𝑢𝑠𝑡. This is how it went: 𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥, 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐝, 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐭 and 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐭. This endless cycle of events corrupted Chara in such a way she couldn't see reality anymore. She didn't 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 to, she 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅𝒏'𝒕 feel anything other than 𝐇𝐚𝐭𝐞. Although, Frisk was starting to act a bit weird the past few timelines, hesitating before actually killing someone, so Chara had to take over Frisk multiple times for them to keep going.
There weren't many pacifist routes in all those 999 timelines. Only about 12 times has Frisk chosen the path of mercy. The rest were either genocide routes, or neutral runs, but that happened rarely.

Now, let's talk about timeline number 999. What was so special about it? Well, my dear readers, like I said in the beggining, it was 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐮𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐝. A lot of monsters dissapeared, which was a dissapointment for Chara, because less monsters means less LV. A lot of glitches and errors have happened as well, like items decreasing HP instead of increasing it, and some monsters having parts of their dialog either changed up or erased completely. Could have it been the one and only 𝐸𝑟𝑟𝑜𝑟 𝑆𝑎𝑛𝑠 corrupting the timeline? No one may ever know...

But that wasn't even the most interesting part. Sans, our well-known skeleton who can remember resets, woke up in his bed once again, ready for another round of 𝑠𝑢𝑓𝑓𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔. He got up, did his morning routine and waved his brother Papyrus goodbye before heading out the door. He walked through the forest, waiting to encounter the kid again.
But instead he got a surprise. Along with Frisk, there was some sort of 𝑠𝑝𝑖𝑟𝑖𝑡 whispering something in her ear as they were walking, with 𝑎 𝑚𝑢𝑟𝑑𝑒𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑠 𝑔𝑟𝑖𝑛 spread across her face. He imediately recognised the figure. It was Chara, 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝. He didn't think he would see her again, not after she died of buttercup poisoning. He wanted to come out of his hiding spot and embrace his friend, but knowing that wasn't possible, he stayed hidden. He thought he was probably going crazy, so he rubbed his eyesockets with his boney hands. Nope, she was still there. Seeing the scene in front of him, he started to think. That 𝑐𝑟𝑒𝑒𝑝𝑦 𝑠𝑚𝑖𝑙𝑒 and the 𝑢𝑛𝑠𝑒𝑡𝑡𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑎𝑢𝑟𝑎 she was emitting, he knew something was wrong. Then, it snapped inside of him. He's seen that grin before, when fighting Frisk in the Jugment Hall. So that must mean, Chara took over her when in battle. 𝑺𝒉𝒆 was doing all of this. 𝑺𝒉𝒆 killed everyone. 𝑺𝒉𝒆 caused all those genocide routes. Sans was shocked, angry and heartbroken at the same time. ❝How could she do this to us? Why her?...❞ That was all he could think about in that moment. He teleported back to his house, not wanting to have anything to do with this anymore. The two children noticed Sans' absence at the bridge, which only made them more confused about this timeline and its defects.
