Bother - Chapter 26

"I thought that Leonie's house was nice," I mutter as he reaches the end of the driveway, "this is like a house from a movie,"

"I can't say that I complain very often," He smiles as he parks the car.

"Were you this nervous to meet my family?" I ask, nervous laughter dripping from my voice,

"Probably," He shrugs, "I just pushed the thought away and made myself not nervous," He sits back in his seat and leans his head against the head rest, "Do we have to go in? Because if we do, I'm going to have to share you and I don't want to do that right now," He says grabbing my hand.

I nod and open the door, pulling my hand away and pausing before jumping out, "You don't get me to yourself for two nights! How are you going to survive?" I say with sarcasm as I jump out and pull the duffle bag with my clothed out of the back seat.

"I thought I heard a car!" A lady's voice appears from the front door and I turn around to see Jamie's mum. The nerves return to my stomach and I hear Jamie's door opening slowly. "You must be Jess!" She smiles walking down the three stairs to the car.

"I am, it's a pleasure to meet you," I smile as she hugs me and kisses me on the cheek, "and you must be Anne?"

"That's my name," She smiles, "And where is my boy?"

Just as she finishes speaking Jamie stands out of the car and runs his hands through his hair and stretches, "Hey mum,"

They meet each other at the back end of the car and greet each other much like she and I did.

"Well, come in, come in," she smiles to me,

We all walk through the door into the entrance way and left into the lounge room where Jamie's dad, David, Sam and I'm assuming Sam's girlfriend is sitting in the couches surrounding a coffee table.

"This is Jess," Anne smiles, "This is Sam, Holly and Jamie's father, David," She motions around the room at the three figures as Jamie comes up behind me and encircling his arms around my waist.

"Nice to meet you," Sam smiles as he stands up and shakes my hand before he hugs his brother in one of those 'bro-hugs', "I'm glad you guys are here now, I'm starving," He chuckles, walking past us and turning left at the hallway to what I'm guessing is the kitchen.

"I hope we haven't held you guys up," I say as I follow Anne to the kitchen, Jamie and David trailing behind us.

"It doesn't bother us," She chuckles,

"YES IT DOES! HURRY UP!" Sam yells as Holly darts past us to catch up to him.

"Well, it doesn't bother David and I, you're hardly late," She smiles, "The two of you are staying for a few nights aren't you? I really hope you are,"

I nod and quickly glance at Jamie behind us, "That's the plan that I am aware of,"

"Well, thank you for dinner but I am so tired, so I'm going to have to be rude and go to bed," I say, after yawning for what seemed like the 100th time.

"And being the dutiful boyfriend I am, I have to go with her,"

Everyone around the table laughs and makes some sort of sarcastic retort.

"Goodnight," I smile,

"I'll grab your other bag out of the car," He smiles, kissing my temple before walking out of the front door. I walk up the stairs to his room and collapse onto his bed, letting my arm flop onto the pillow. My eyes close and I don't think they'll be opening anytime soon.

"Look at you, all snuggled up," I hear him coo as something (I'm assuming the bags) hits the ground.

I make some sort of noise in the back of my throat as he hops into his bed, pushing me over to one side, "Goodnight,"

The smallest of smiles manages to be the last thing I remember before falling asleep.
