I woke up.
My phone was ringing.
Great! I wonder who that could be!
I picked up my phone, it was one in the morning.
"Hello?" I yawned.
"Kelsy," it was Heather. She sounded like she had been crying.
"Heather, is everything okay?" I was starting to get concerned.
"Kelsy, it's Jason," Heather was sobbing.
"H-he got in an a-accident."
"What? Where are you guys?"
"We're at the hospital."
"Okay, I'll be right over."
I hung up.
I stopped breathing for a second because suddenly I started gasping for air.
Jason was in an accident?
~~~~~
I ran through the hospital doors.
"May I help you?" asked the receptionist.
"Um, what room is Jason Myers in?"
"Let me check."
I tapped my fingers on the desk, waiting for her to answer.
"He is in room 234, on the second floor."
"Okay, thanks," I ran to the elevator and pushed in the second floor button.
When I arrived, I kept walking untill I found Jason's room
I knocked on the door and went inside.
There Jason lay, on a medical bed. Practicly wrapped head to toe in bandages.
Heather and Jackson, with their three small children, stood around him.
"Hey," I walked over to Heather and rubbed her back.
"What happened?"
"Another car hit black ice and lost control," Jackson answered, "and slid into Jason's vehicle, making it flip."
"I'm so sorry," I could feel tears coming to my eyes.
"Jackson, we need to take the kids back home to bed," Heather suggested.
"Yeah, why don't you guys go back home and get some rest," I offered.
"Someone's got to stay with Jason tonight, it doesn't feel right to leave him here," Jackson said, with a heavy tiredness in his voice.
"But I need you to drive, you're a better driver than I am. Especially in this weather," Heather quickly glanced at Jason, his chest barely lifting up and down to take breaths.
"I'll stay with him," I quickly volunteered.
"Kelsy, you don't have to do that," Heather turned to me.
"It'll just be until morning, when you and Jackson can come and visit him."
"Are you sure?" Jackson raised his brow.
"Yes, your kids need you for Christmas morning," I paused, "think of it as a Christmas gift, from me."
"Oh, Kelsy," Heather hugged me, "thank you."
"See you guys in the morning," I said as the tired family left.
I pulled up a chair and sat down next to Jason's bed.
His eyes were closed as he slept peacefully. The only sound in the room was the soft beeping coming from the heart monitor.
I sighed, feeling the lack of sleep weighing down on me.
I reached out and grabbed Jason's hand.
"Please let him be okay," I wispered as tears threatened to make their way down my cheek.
I wanted to do something to help him, but there was nothing to do. Was there?
Pray.
What? Pray?
I haven't prayed since I was a little child. Even then, when I did, my father scolded me for "talking nonsence."
Well, what could I loose if I prayed now?
"Dear God," I paused.
"If there is a God," I wispered.
"Please, please help him be okay. His family, Jackson, Heather, Kate, Madi, and Tucker, they all adore him."
I closed my eyes.
"He's a good person. He saved my life, and...well...I owe him."
I opened my eyes and looked up at the ceiling.
"Please, God, let him live," I paused, unsure what to say next.
"Amen?"
~~~~~
"Kelsy!"
I groaned.
"Kelsy wake up!"
I opened my eyes to see Madi shaking me, trying to wake me.
I had fallen asleep by laying my head on the medical bed with Jason's hand on my head. Weird.
I sat up and stretched.
Madi hugged me.
"Did you really stay with Uncle Jason all night?" Madi asked.
I yawned.
"Yeah, I did."
Madi looked up at me.
"You must love him a whole bunch to do that!"
I laughed, feeling embarrassed.
"No, I just did it to help your parents out."
"Oh, so you don't love him? But you kissed him!"
I blushed.
I forgot about that.
"Well, I do like him. As a friend though," I quickly said.
"But-"
"Okay, that's enough Madi," Jackson said, drawing my attention to the rest of their family.
I stood up.
"So, did you guys have a good Christmas morning?"
"Uh, yeah. We enjoyed it," Jackson answered.
"Good."
"Were you okay staying here last night?" Heather asked.
"It wasn't too bad," I yawned.
"Well, we did appreciate it, but why don't you go and get some more sleep at home," Heather offered.
"That sounds wonderful," I smiled.
"Thanks, Kelsy," Jackson smiled.
"Anytime."
"Go and rest up now."
