"Mom I'm off to school."
"Did you eat something?"
She screams from the laundry room and of course I lie to her because if I tell her I hadn't she'd have a whole cow and a half.
"Uh, sure." I drag.
"Okay sweetie have a great first day and don't forget to stop by Steve's to get my scented candles."
"Yeah I remembered the first thirty times you told me. Love you."
I walk out the front door into the fresh air of pine wood county. I could smell senior year going by with a breeze and of course I feel like a brand new me thanks to the new hair color. Stepping onto the pathway leading to the sidewalk I see a figure running towards me at top speed.
"Sunni ! Sunni ! Hey wait up!"
With a little squinting due to the sun i could make out the figure perfectly. Lily Waterford. My best friend since fifth grade or basically since I moved here. She's not exactly an "A lister" but she's a good friend and I think that's quite better than making it on top of some list of douche bags.
"Oh hey Lily ."
"Something's off about you." She examines me head to toe before coming to a conclusion, "Did you get a nose job?"
"A what? No! My mom would never let me get a freaking nose job."
We begin to walk the sidewalk to school.
"Okay, so you don't have a nose job but something's definitely different about you."
"Oh yeah I dyed my hair black."
"There we go! I knew it was something but I'm confused as to why."
She bite her lip in confusion as she gives my hair a quick flick with her finger.
"No reason I just wanted to look different is all. What you don't like it?"
"Didn't say that at all. It's just something to get used to but you aren't the only one to get something changed."
I furrow my eyebrows then I widen my eyes once I realize what she was talking about.
"No!"
I exclaimed in utter shock.
"Yes!"
"By who?"
"I can't really go into deets right now seeing as though we're almost at school, but I definitely will tell you every single thing later."
I smile although I felt like the wind has been knocked right out of me. So I guess I'm the only one officially left and it doesn't feel too good. I mean who cares? Right? Who am I kidding? I care! I don't want to be the odd ball out all the damn time. This is just great!
We walk into the halls of Pinewood High School and remember how much I hated walking through these halls of terror. Everyone would stare you down as if you're doing this for a show rather than trying to get to your freaking locker. I hate this part!
"I just hope we have at least one class together because I really don't want to have to deal with this year alone."
I open my locker before replying, "Well lets just hope so shall we?"
She shrugs prior to leaning against the locker next to mine.
"Don't look now , but Caleb Reagan at six o'clock."
Oh shit!
I look down the hall at Caleb, the schools alleged bad boy. I don't believe in that bad boy crap which Lily finds weird. She thinks that I seem to always find the good in people that just are pure evil to the tea and could see someone do something bad and make excuses for them.

Okay , fine maybe I do that sometimes, but nobody wants to think that all this world has to offer is bad people with bad intentions. Even though that's all there is really but still.
"Earth to Sunni." Lily waves her hand in front of my face, "what's on your mind that's so good it has you in Lala land?"
"Nothing just thinking about this year and all this Uh senior crap."
The bell rings signifying all students to meet in the gymnasium for the new year speech. Everyone scattered like roaches towards the entrance to the gym. I could only hope this goes by faster than I have in mind.

After the long exhausting speech from the principle about all his expectations for this school year , we received our schedules and to my surprise me and lily don't have any classes together. It came as a surprise because we've always got at least one class together but no classes? This has to be written down in history. This has never ,in all my years of grade school, happened before.
"This must be some kind mistake right?"
Lily complains as we walk out of the gym.
"I mean it's possible but then again it's senior year and things change so maybe this is a part of that change who knows."
"Who knows? I know! This is absurd. I don't want to be in a room full of dirty geezers."
"Calm down will ya?" The bell rings for everyone to get to their first class. "I'll see you after school okay?"
I can tell she was a little disappointed by my reaction to the whole schedule thing but I couldn't help but think it's time I spread my arms open a bit socially. She'll always be my best friend but there's nothing wrong with making new ones right?
I walk towards Ms Hathaway's science class. It's not my best subject but it's way better than math and that counts for something. Sitting at the middle lab table , I place my bag on the floor and my notebook on the table top.
Students poured in right before the final bell rung for the start of class and to my surprise a girl with blonde hair sits next to me.
Maybe I should introduce myself. Is that weird? I mean she has blonde hair for crying out loud! How weird could it be. I'm literally contemplating to myself aren't I?
"Hi , I'm Sunni."
I say with a pleasant smile on my face.
She flips her hair before looking at me.
"Tiffany."
"Funny thing. I never seen you around here before. I know pinewood is a big school but—"
"That is funny because I just moved here."
She smiles sarcastically before looking ahead.
Well she's a daisy huh?
"Welcome to your first class of the day for the school year. I'm sure most of you know me from last year and to the ones who don't, I am Ms Hathaway and —"
The door opens and in walks Caleb Reagan.
Wait Caleb Reagan ??!! Okay no!
"Late Mr Reagan and it's the first day? I see I'm gonna have fun with my tardy list this year huh?"
"Sorry."
His deep voice oozes out.
"Have a seat."
He's coming this way. What do I do? What do I do?
He sits behind me and my body goes stiff.
Okay let's be clear he's hot! I wouldn't say I have a crush on him but like I said...he's freaking hot!
"So let's get to know each other."
Please no individual introductions.
"So I'm going to pass around these papers that asks you some questions and this will be counted as your first grade of the year."
Thank goodness!!
A light tap was placed on the back of my shoulder.
Don't turn around there's only one person it could be and what could he possibly want with you? Just stay faced forward.
Another light tap.
And another.
I turn around slowly.
Oh my holy mole of cracker cheese. Why does he look like this? So perfect. I mean up close to make it worse. Not one pimple? Not even a small mole maybe? Oh god he's smiling at me with those pretty white teeth.
"Are you okay?"
"Huh?" I didn't realize I was staring like some lunatic. Awkward.
"Are you okay?" He asks to who I realize is me.
"Huh? yeah I'm good you know, how are you? You good? I'm good."
"I'm good."
"Yeah I guess everybody's good. You know?"
Just shut up. Please!!
"So do you have one?"
"Do I have one?"
"A pencil."
"Oh yeah I knew that. Sure I have one just a sec."
I turn around and reach in my bag for a pencil. Why am I being so weird? I'm ruining myself!!
"Look what I found?"
I say after finding a pencil and turning back to him.
"Wow what a discovery."
He says leaving me confused.
"Oh good one." I say before laughing awkwardly and turning back around and pulling my beanie down almost over my eyes in embarrassment.
Ruined.
"Next time do less talking , Just smile and give the guy what he wants." To my surprise Tiffany says not looking my way.
Okay I'm not sure what she means by that but if what he wants is a pencil then sure.
"Uh thanks?"

The rest of the day went by successfully and it turns out I take the majority of my classes with Tiffany. She's different than the girls here at Pinewood and I mean that by the way she dresses and is standoffish. A bit prettier too if I may add. I walk into the restroom to check my makeup and who is there?
Yep you got that right. Tiffany.
I stand at the mirror next to her and take out my lipgloss before applying it to my lips.
She chuckles a bit.
"What?" I thought I said it in my head but apparently not.
"You're one of those."
One of those?
"Those what?"
"Those girls who uses clear lipgloss."
"So?"
"It's so babyish like we're seniors. I mean if you're going to use lipgloss at least use colored lipgloss. Clear? Yeah let's see how many guys you pull with that mess."
I catch a glimpse of her pink glossy lips before she exits the bathroom and look in the mirror at my plain lips.
Whose trying to pull guys though? I mean it would be nice to have some attention but whatever. I like my lipgloss.
I walk out of the bathroom and towards the exit of the school. The students in the hallway were thinning out as everyone was leaving for the day. I walk out into the afternoon sun and was met up with by Lily.
"Oh god I've missed you! Today was so horrific! Let me just tell you I don't think I can do this all school year. I don't know anybody in any of my classes and wish we could've just had one class together so how was your first day? If it were anything like mine , I have to hear this."
We walk down the stairs of the school and onto the sidewalk towards Steve's.
I shrug, "It was okay."
"Are you kidding me?!"
She stops walking and I stop to see what's wrong.
"What?"
"Okay so first you take us not having any classes together so perfectly and now you're telling me you're enjoying this shit? We have never not had any classes together if we did we make a commotion about it to the point they change it to our liking. What's happened to you? It's like you're becoming this person I don't like."
"It's not that big of a deal Lily goodness!"
"Exactly my point."
"Well I'm sorry that you feel as though we have to be stuck up each other's asses in order to be friends but I don't see why it matters."
Her mouth hung open and I instantly feel bad.
"Look Lily were seniors now let's just enjoy it okay?"
"Whatever . I'll see you tomorrow."
She begin to walk the opposite direction.
"But You're suppose to walk with me to Steve's!"
"Walk yourself!"
She yells as she walks further off.
She'll be okay.
I continue walking before pulling out my phone and sending her a brief text.
I look behind me and see a black charger pulling up to me and my instant reaction was to speed up but the faster I got the faster they got. I stop frustratingly to give the creep a piece of my mind.
"Okay who are you!!!!"
I nearly scream.
I stand with my hand on my hip until the driver door opens and out came a laughing Caleb but I didn't find anything funny.
"I don't find this the least bit of funny you know?"
"Well I do. I was just trying to return your pencil I asked your friend Tiffany—"
"Not my friend."
"Well I asked her where you were and she told me you left walking this way."
"You could've just returned it tomorrow you know."
"Well I'm here now and that would be a waste of a good damn trip ,and funny if I may add. So mind taking your pencil ?"
"It's just a pencil dude. You could've just kept it no biggie."
"You're not gonna give in are you?"
"Bye."
I begin walking off but he jogged up to me.
"Can you stop following me!"
"I insist you take this pencil!"
He grabs my hand gently and place the pencil into it.
Why did that just give me chills?
"There. Now you won't have to give in."
He smirks before walking back to his car and speeding off. I watch as the car disappear before starting to walk again.
Could this day get any weirder?
