"Cassie!" my five year old brother, Alec, shouts running into my room and jumping onto my California king bed, causing all my books to land on the ground. A girl needs her bed space, especially when a queen isn't enough and ends up kicking everyone off in her sleep.
I hold my hands up to stop him, but it was no use. Once Alec had his mind made up, you can't make him change his mind. He takes after me with that. Once I want something, I have to have it.
"Can we go to the park?" The little boy pleads. When I'm about to disagree, he folds his bottom lip. I shake my head, but once I look up and into his big brown eyes I know I'm done.
I let out a big sigh and nod my head, "fine."
The little boy jumps up and down in excitement, ignoring the rest of what I had to say.
I walk down the stairs following him, tripping on the last step and landing on my face.
"Shit," I hiss in pain, looking up to meet Alec's brown eyes wide open at my slip, "I meant, shucks!"
His mouth drops, screaming, "sissy said a bad word!"
I bang my fists on the hard wood floor, pulling myself up, "you don't need to tell the whole house Alec."
He shrugs his shoulders, putting on his small blue sweatshirt, getting stuck zipping it up, "can you help me please?"
I arch an eyebrow at him.
"I won't tell mommy!" he begs, wrapping his fragile arms around my legs.
Alec is a total mommy's boy. I mean, I get along with her, just not as much as Alec. You would expect me to be really close to my mom, since we're both girls, but that isn't the case. I'm into girl things, just doing them with my friends. My dad though, he always lets me off the hook, since I'm his princess.
I nod happy with that trade. I bend down and zip his hoodie all the way up.
At that moment, my mother walks into the living room, a scowl on her face. "What's this about a bad word?"
I look over to my little brother and see him doing the same thing I'm doing, an innocent look plastered on our faces.
His head tilts to the right, "I don't know what you're talking about mommy."
She shakes her head, not pleased with us wasting her time, "be back by eight, it's already 7:30." She turns around and walks back into her work room. Of course i'll be back by eight. It's friday night, and there's a huge party that Conners bringing me to. Meaning, I can't miss it for the world.
Our mom is a lawyer and usually keeps herself in her office, which is inside our home. It makes it so we can 'spend more time together.' In reality, she hardly spends a minute on her two children, except for our family dinners.
Our dad is in the military, making it so I hardly see him, but the time we spend together it worth while. I know I'll disappoint him when I tell him about my drinking and partying, and how I don't actually want to go to Harvard, so i'll keep living a lie. It's not like my mom cares if I follow in her footsteps and go to one of the best colleges in the United States.
"Let's go, Cassie!" His little hand grabs mine, and drags me to the park across the street.
After we cross the street, he lets go and runs to the swings, yelling at me to come with him. I let out a soft giggle at him being so excited, and sit on the swing beside him.
"Let's talk sissy!"
I laugh and shake my head, "okay?"
"Let's talk about love!"
