Fear is a strong emotion, yet a natural mechanism that exists to protect us from our surroundings. While there are fears that are reasonable, there are also fears that are weird and absurd. The following are the top 5 human fears that many people share. Know what these fears are so you will know how to deal with them.

5. Loss of Freedom

The fear of losing one's freedom has always been a fear a person has. It may have stemmed from the time you were grounded in your room for several days after having done something unacceptable. This is the very reason why most people do not do illegal acts. They fear going to jail and losing their freedom.

4. A person's fear of the unknown

We always want to be in situations that we have complete control of. We fear things we don't have control over. When we are absolutely sure what's out there waiting for us, that's the only time that we move forward. Our fear of the unknown stems from our belief that once we know what's out there, then we can control it. But if we have no idea what's waiting for us, then we cannot control it.

When we were just kids, we were terrified of the dark because we don't know what monsters are lurking there. In our adult life, it is our fear of the unknown that hinders our personal progress because we are too afraid to go out there and discover whatever opportunities that lies ahead.

3. Disappointment

Our fear of disappointment has two faces - fear of disappointing ourselves and disappointing others. Our fear of getting disappointed is what often keeps us from trying something new and going against the norm. We are so afraid that our efforts might not come up to what we and others expect of us. To keep ourselves and others from being disappointed, we just refuse to try.

2. Ridicule

Stage fright comes from our fear of being ridiculed by other people. When we experience bad criticisms, we may develop social fear and will gradually lose our self confidence. We fear going out and showing our talents to the world because we fear that people might not understand and just mock or criticize us.

1. The Fear of Failure

The fear of failure has so much control in most of us -- in our actions and decisions-- that it deserves being at the top of the list. Thus, to avoid failing, we just stop trying altogether. Our past failures can also take a toll on our confidence so we no longer think we are capable of success.

Stop and try to do a self assessment today. Do youhave certain fears? List them down. Are the fears that you have reasonable? If you are willing to accept that you have unreasonable fears that are holding you back. And if you want to start a change within yourself, seek help. As soon as you can accept that you have unreasonable fears that are holding you back, then you can start dealing with them and get a hold of your life. A life coach can help you banish your limiting beliefs and train you to have a success mindset. You might not realize it, but every person, especially you, have the capacity to achieve success. It just takes another person to tell you and show you your strengths.
