"Please don't tell mum where I'm going, I'll be home soon, if she asks where I am say I'm at the library. Please Lori?" My brother pleads.
"Josh... this girl doesn't even care! You want me to lie to mum so you can tell her you love her, while she stands there treating you like shit?!" I angry whisper back "fine then, I'll lie, BUT, on one condition."
Josh sighed "What's the condition?"
I put on my serious-I'm-your-twin-sister-I'm-a-woman-I-know-stuff face. "Dump this Hayley chick and find someone who deserves you."
Exasperated, Josh looked me in the eye. "No deal!" He held up his arms making a cross."Lori, my love life is mine, stop trying to dictate it! Look, tell mum, tell her because right now Lori, I don't care! I love her and I need to tell her!"
"Fine! Go tell her, no, go declare your great and undying love for this girl! But when she tells you she doesn't feel the same, don't come crying to me about it!" I yell, tears in my eyes. I know he's making the wrong choice, he's dated this girl for two weeks and he already wants to shout from the rooftops that he's head-over-heels in love for this girl who I might add, just sees him as a toy. "I'll see you at home later, I expect, along with your broken heart." I say quietly and start walking to the school bus. Josh looks at me solemnly and turns to walk back towards the school entrance.
Today had been the worst day ever. My best friend kissed or should I say, sucked the face off the boy I really like. Then I had to pick rubbish up at lunch for talking during maths, then my commerce teacher told me I would never be capable of running a business and to top it all off my brother fell in love (or at least he thinks he has).
I ended up lying to mum and told her Josh was at the library studying for his English essay. Josh still wasn't home after dinner at 7 so I texted him.
'How's it going, lover boy?'
A few seconds later he replied.
'I'll be home soon'
And then a few minutes later I heard the thuds of Josh coming up the stairs, avoiding mum asking how the study session went.
"I hate girls" he declared as I sat on my love seat doing my English essay. Josh flopped, quite literally, onto my bed, face down.
"So now your going to tell me I was right and that your sorry for being wrong and that you should of listened to your beautiful and clever sister?"
"Never" Josh replied in a sarcastic but slightly muffled groan from my bed, still lying face down.
"So you actually ended up doing study at the library?"
Josh rolled over and sat up against my pile of pillows. "How did you know?!"
"Well, it would of only taken her 5 seconds to dump you just before you could tell her you loved her, so you would have actually done some study at the library to keep you distracted from the terrible pain of a broken heart. Then when the library shut at 5:30 you caught the late bus home so you actually got home at about 6:30 and since then you've been sitting on the back porch feeling sorry for yourself. Then I texted you and you decided against my advice that you would come crying to me with your broken heart. Any missing details?" I replied smugly, it felt so good being right.
"Actually yes, there is one missing detail. I found her pashing Tom Wilson just outside the library, so I dumped her."
"But the rest is correct?"
"...Yes"
"I told you..." Josh cut me off before I could rub any more salt in his wounds.
"Please don't say what your about to say. Next time I date a girl I'm actually going to listen to you, okay?"
"Fine with me, but my dear boy, you will have a lot of work to do if you want another girl."
"Yeah...yeah...start the plan for mission sexy ass Josh in the morning."
"Oh I will! We'll have you..." before I could start describing the plan for Josh's future love life, he had fallen asleep on my bed. He looked like a helpless puppy, lost in the big ominous world, trying to find a place to belong. And to be completely honest, I felt the same.
