stassie's pov
we pulled up to our new house. the car hadn't come to a complete stop and i already hated being here. i always read fantasy novels where moving means new beggings and having a cute boy next door that i'm supposed fall in love with, but that's all it was a fantasy.

i step out of the car as the rain begins to quicken in pace. great just great, not only did we have to move but we had to move to portland, a place known for rain. my sister comes up behind me admiring the house, with a grin. i'm not sure what she sees other than a house with dark brown walls and a depressing gray stone staircase leading up to it.

"isn't it beautiful?" my sister says before heading inside and leaving me alone.

i look around at the houses near us before i take one final glance and head inside. "take off your shoes!" my mother yells. the inside is complete opposite of the the outside. white bright walls all around the house, almost too bright. i take a step inside finding the kitchen to my right and the living room to my left.

i follow a small hallway passing a stair case to two bedrooms with their own private bathrooms the one on the left being mine and the one on the right being my sisters. the last room is just upstairs, it has the biggest bathroom and a balcony, obviously my parents.

i push open a door and am greeted with maya putting up her stuff.

"what do you think you're doing?" i ask setting my bag down.

"decorating my room," she says in a duh tone.

"you know this is my room, right?" i ask stepping closer.

"that's not fair" she crosses her arms.

"maya let your sister unpack her things, we already agreed that you would have the room next door," she says help my sister move her stuff.

she groans in response but follows moms instructions. she closes the door on her way out and i'm left alone again.

i look around not wanting to unpack my clothes or move a muscle. i hate change and so far i hate portland. i hate moving across the country just because my parents wanted "a change in scenery". i left my friends and everyone i ever cared for. moving from new york to portland was a horrible decision and as much as i tried to make them see that they were oblivious.

i slump on my bed- correction the new bed they bought. and my eyes begin to feel heavy.

**

i wake up to my mom calling my name. i get up reaching for my phone and checking the time
*7 pm* i head into the kitchen to see what she was calling about.

"Get ready, we're having company!" she announces as she pulls out what looks like dinner from the oven.

"company? we don't know anyone." i say sitting on chair in the island.

"the neighbors came over to introduce themselves, and i invited them for dinner."
her hair is in her face but i can still see the bruise she got a few days ago from maya hitting her with the car door.

"can you help me set the table? when you're done change into something more presentable," she says not looking up from whatever she's doing.

i look down at my sweats and hoodie not really wanting to change.

"i already did!" maya pops up behind me.
i look over at the table noticing she did a good job, candles and everything.
