Okay this day has just got weirder.
I was in Steve's waiting for moms scented candles and in walks Tiffany.
Is this girl following me?
She struts towards the counter before ringing the bell.
I was looking around the shop or pretending to be rather before I walk up to the counter as if I needed something.
She didn't notice me at first but with my peripheral vision I can see she eventually looks me over before speaking.
"Hey, you're that girl from my science class."
I look fake surprised as if It came as a big whoopsie for me as well. "Clear lip gloss girl right?"
"Sunni."
"Yep I remember."
There as an awkward silence for what felt like forever.
"Where is that old man?"
She rings the bell again while looking around.
"So what brings you here exactly?"
I ask curiously.
"Well , this is —"
"Tiff? Why are you here? Where's your mother?"
Steve walks from the back room with candles in hand.
"Nice to see you too Uncle Steve and she's at home with the flu for the third time in six months. She asked me to pick up her antique lamp or something like that."
Steve is her uncle? I know they say it's a small world but Jee-Wiz!
"She really need to see a doctor about these consistent flu viruses," He places the candles on the counter top prior to getting a box "Now Sunni I want you to tell your mom that these candles are the newest in and smells delightfully different than the others."
He packages the candles before sliding the box towards me.
"Thanks Mr Steve."
He smiles and tips his hat.
I turn around and head for the door.
"Hey! wait up."
I turn around to see Tiffany headed my way and I'm a bit confused.
Awkward.
"I know you're thinking what the hell does she want with me? But I'm actually having a party this weekend to get to know some people and I kind of need some help on the invitation list. Seeing how as though you're the only person I kind of know here, I figured I'd ask you."
Okay me? Out of all the small minded people in that school, she wants me to help her? My social status isn't exactly up there my darling. There is absolutely...
"Um."
Positively no way I'm doing this.
"Sure."
I'm doing this aren't I? Fuck!
She smiles like a child whose received a piece of candy after being scorned for being a brat.
"Thank you so much Sunshine I'll see you at my house tomorrow. Here's my number and address if you have any questions or concerns. Nice doing business with you."
She hands me a card before walking towards her car.
"And it's Sunni!"
I yell to her as a reminder.
"I know."
She gets into her car and I turn the opposite direction to walk home but she pulls up beside me.
"Need a lift?"
Uhh yeah I'm carrying this 15 pound box of candles but then again she is basically a stranger.
Playing it safe again aren't you Sunni?
"Uh sure thanks."
I cross the street and get in the passenger side of the car.
"So you're gonna have to give me your address so I can put it in my gps."
"There's no need I live just a couple minutes from here. I can just guide you."
"Okay. Whatever fits."
"You can make a left here."
I direct.
"So you like the cutie in Science class huh?"
I was baffled and caught completely off guard by this question.
"What are you talking about?"
"Come on sunshine it's obvious."
Is she dumb? I've told her my name is...just roll with it.
"I don't."
"You do and I know you do. You don't have to shy away from him you know? And he was looking for you earlier."
"I know we Uh had an encounter. He was just returning my pencil."
She laughs it loud.
"I wonder what play book he got that from?"
"No I don't think it's nothing like that I mean Caleb's known for doing crazy stuff that makes no sense."
One of the things I like for some weird reason.
"You should really stop downplaying yourself."
Am I really downplaying myself?
"My house is right here."
I identify as she slows down and pulls over.
"If you like this guy ,Caleb ,then I mean go for it. What do you have to lose?"
No the question is , what do I have to gain? Let's try embarrassment.
"Thanks for the ride."
I exit the car and walk up to the front door of my house before waving goodbye and disappearing inside.
"Mom? I'm home."
"In the kitchen."
She yells back. I hang my bag on the hanger beside the door before walking into the kitchen. There was cake baking supplies and ingredients everywhere.
"Oh hey sweetie. I was Uh trying to make a chocolate cake and it's uh not going so well."
She explains.
I laugh at not only the mess but the chocolate and powder on her face.
"It looks like you were in a fight with the cake mom and it won. Look at you."
We both begin to laugh.
"Yeah I messed this one up huh?"
"Just about, yeah."
She begins cleaning the island.
"Maybe we could go to the plaza for dinner . I heard they had a mean chocolate cake and good food."
"Sure sweetie. I just have to clean this up and myself and I'll be ready."
I smile before side hugging her due to the box of candles.
"Oh here are your candles from Steve. He says their the newest in the shop so it may have a different smell than the original ones you like."
"Oh wow I can't wait to smell them."
"Well I'll be upstairs changing."
I walk up to my room pulling out my phone from my pocket. I read my messages accordingly.
