Amen! "can y'all feel the holy spirit reach upon your souls?" Do you know Jesus? can you feel Jesus? I said do you know him? can I get an amen? "Amen!" Just last week a man came to me and explained, "pastor I wanna know Jesus, and all glory he lay upon his children. But the battle of my addiction forsee it." You know what I told 'em? "what you told 'em rev.?" I tol'em, "Jesus knows all he sees all he pick you up when you are down, I said he picks you up when you are down. You don't fight this war, for this battle is not yours it's the lord." "alright now pastor!" can I get an amen? "amen!"

"what a beautiful service the pastor put on today." I looked up as my mama spoke with such excitement as if she were the one preaching. "did you enjoy today's service baby?" "yes mama." I answered her with little to none enthusiasm. "A little girl like yaself would know nothing about the goodness of the lord. I'm going to go speak to Ms. Bertha ann and the reverend, you coming?" "I'll wait in the car mama." Ok I'll be quick, you stay put baby. "yes mama." I watched as mama walked over to the church ladies all of them wore big hats, one bigger than some as if they were in competition with each other for biggest hat award. Mama made sure I went to church every weekend, and not one day to miss. I loved my mama and all she's done for me she made sure everything was done for me being the fact I was not her biological daughter. She was a friend of my real mother, Coral. Mama said that my real daddy could not accept the fact he was a young father and Coral passed away from cancer. I turned one that year, that was 10 years ago. I stayed with mama her husband Earl and the twins Pauletta and Paul, both whom are 3 years older than I am. since the twins were older they had the decision to come to church and obviously they chose not to. I couldn't wait til I grew older to have the option not to. Mama always said that, "THE DEVIL HAS COME UPON HER CHILDREN!" mama was always a bit extra. Growing up in a religious home would make you want to sin as others, sin as Ray Charles turned gospel music into heathen music or so mama would call it, "Devil's music". We weren't allowed to listen to Blues, R&B anything other than gospel. I loved mama but living with her became a burden to my soul. I watched as mama walked back to the car. I can tell she was hot and she looked a bit out of breath. Mama, a heavyset woman and a bit old in her late 30's. She paced back to the car, with her thick southern accent slowly panting, "Baby I didn't leave you in here long did I?" "No mama." she got in her old rusted creme colored Cadillac, the car lowered as she plopped in the driver's seat. she wiped her forehead with her handkerchief from out of her pocketbook. "Them damn ladies know they can talk." I laughed and she covered her face as she realized she cussed. "Lawd please forgive me my toes are killing me in these shoes." She put the car in drive and waved at the church committee and pulled off. "My goodness I have greens to cook! I laughed that was my mama.
