Chapter One

Chloe's POV

My eyes flutter open and I examine the unfamiliar room around me. There were unpacked boxes scattered around the room, along with a white grand piano sitting across the right side, and cleaning materials all over the black hard-wood floor. The light shone across the creamy walls, making the room unexpectedly bright, and causing my eyes to sting in pain as they adjust to the lighting. There were several large windows giving a beautiful view of the busy downtown area that was our new home.

As realization dawns on me, the memories flood back into my mind of the previous few weeks that lead up to the start of my new life. I had just graduated and accepted a joined scholarship with my best friend. Saba and I were practically inseparable since the day we met in grade four, and we have been bestfriends-basically sisters-ever since. It had been our life-long dream to graduate highschool, move into an apartment of our own, and attend the same university, following our goals of studying in a medical school together. Finally, after endless months of searching, we had found a medium-sized apartment for the perfect price and space we were looking for. We had just moved into our apartment, and one thing I hated about moving, was the packing and unpacking of all our belongings, which was to say, a lot. We had tried our best to begin unpacking last night, without success, due to the lack of sleep we had these past few weeks.

Thinking about this new start put a smile on my face. As I turned around on the king-sized bed, I found a sleeping Saba curled up into a ball.  I gently patted her arm, but there was no response other than her quiet snores. I sighed and quickly put her large headphones over her head, and selected a song sung by the band she was so hung up on.

"ZAAAAAAAAYYYYNNN!" She screamed with joy, I assumed she was still consumed in yet another dream about her favourite boyband. As soon as she saw me however, her smile faltered and turned into a frown, as realization hit her right in the face. "Oh...it was just a dream?"

"I'm afraid so, honey. " I replied, trying my best to stifle the laughter that was about to erupt any minute now. "Now stop fantasising about that One Infection-"

"For the millionth time, it's One Direction!"

"Oh, same thing! Get your lazy arse at out of the bed, or else we're going to be late for our first class!"

We both jumped out of bed, and headed to the bathroom, taking turns brushing our teeth, and taking a shower, before heading off to our separate walk-in closets to get changed. I picked up my bright red skinny jeans, along with a nice striped over-sized tee, and a pair of my favourite red vans with white and grey shoelaces. I combed my long burgundy hair, and left it hanging in its wavy state. I ran out of the closet to find Saba. wearing a plain white V-neck, bright blue skinny jeans, and her signature blue varsity jacket, matched with her plain blue converse. She put up her long, dark brown hair into a messy bun and had applied light make-up.

We grabbed our stuff and headed out of our apartment. We hopped into my brand new sleek, white Audi, and I drove us off to campus.

The whole 15 minute drive was pure T-O-R-T-U-R-E, as Saba connected her iPod  to my car stereo, and put her obnoxious, yet surprisingly catchy boyband music on full-blast, fist pumping and screaming out the lyrics. I absolutely loved my best friend to pieces, and would do anything to ensure that she was happy, but this obsession of hers, or "dedication" as she would say, to this so-called boyband of hers, was getting on my nerves. I completely dispised boybands, as I was more into rock and heavy metal. Apparently, as Saba has mentioned numerous times, One Direction weren't just any, ordinary band, the members were extremely down-to-earth, and were always themselves in their concerts, music videos, and in front of their fans. I didn't believe any of that nonsense, as I thought they were nothing but stuck-up, annoying celebrities, who cared about nothing, but their stupid fame and fortune. As you can clearly tell by now, just because I have a best friend who was a "dedicated" Directioner, didn't mean I was one, too.
