Summary: He was so quick. Always so quick, but every time not fast enough.
————————
Minato always prided himself on being quick.
He is the one who can kill hundreds of men in a matter of minutes, not even sweating after such feat.
It's through his secret Technique called "Hiraishin no Jutsu" that he became one of the most feared shinobi of his time, renowned all over the 5 nations for his speed. He was so quick that one was only able to see his vibrant yellow hair, earning him the name "Konoha's yellow flash".
He is the yellow Flash, after all, no one could surpass his speed, not even the infamous Raikage himself.
Minato uses unusual three-pronged-kunais, in which he carved in his special seal formula for the Hiraishin.
( — It took him days to carve it into every single one of his kunai — )
( — It was worth it though — )
( — He was able to save a lot of people through his technique after all — )
So, one can conclude that, yes, he was very proud to be so quick.
But now, as he arrived, he questioned his capabilities as the yellow flash.
It wasn't the bloodied and disfigured corpses of the enemy shinobi that horrified him, or the bloodstained battlefield.
No, it was the mangled corpse of Rin Nohara, his Rin. His student. Bloodied and pale. A hole in her chest where her heart was supposed to be.
It hurt even more as he saw Kakashi, his Kakashi in front of her at the ground, right hand dried with blood, tear marks staining his cheeks.
No, ... that can't be ...
He hurried to his students, uncaring of any threats that could be lurking around. His eyes were fixated on his two - bloodied - students. His throat closed up, restricting him in trying to take calming breaths.
No, no no, ...
Tears rolled down his cheeks, dry sobs wracking his body as he collapsed in front of his students. No ...
In vain he tried to find a pulse in Rin's wrist, knowing there was none but trying to find it anyway because she cOulDn'T bE dEaD — nO shE siMpLy cOuLdn'T —
He choked on a sob, no pulse, — of course, she haS nO heArT stUpID
He took a shuddering breath, calm calm, stay calm Minato, stay calm ...
He looked at Kakashi blankly, eyes puffy, and slightly red, ...
his hand was shaking, please let him be alive, I can't lose him too
Fumbling around he tried to find a pulse, a relieved sob escaping him.
Thank god
"thank god, — oh, oh thank god, Ka-Kakashi" he cried, "a-alive, you're al-live "
Kakashi is alright Minato, don't worry, he is alive, alive, you don't need to worry, now stay calm, calm breaths Minato, — he took a shuddering breath, trying to calm himself.

He's not dead. Alive. He's alive.
His head cleared and he was able to breathe a little bit more normal than before. He held his face in his head, trying to calm down. Okay, ...
He raised his head, inspecting Kakashi for any injuries while trying very hard to not look at Rin, wincing as he saw Kakashi's bloodstained hand.
Rin's blood.
He felt sick, tears in his eyes resurfacing again, what had happened?
He perked up as he heard Kakashi groan, immediately picking him up and stealthily moving to lay him against a tree.
He tried to calm down his inner turmoil, he is the yellow Flash, he is known for his speed, he is supposed to be quick, saving his fellow comrades.
Dread consumed him.
But he failed, just like he did with Obito. He has failed his whole team, and two had to pay with their life for it.
( — I'm so sorry Obito, Rin, ... Kakashi, I'm so sorry... — )
He was so quick.
Always so quick, but every time not fast enough.
