After a while of Jackline staying, Jeff contacted one of his customers that worked at the courthouse. He walked in and asked her "you've been here for a few weeks and I've taken care of before that. What would you say if I adopted you?" Jackline just picked up Shiver and started petting the dog. Clearly debating in her head she said "I might need to think about it for a bit." She knew people wouldn't expect him to be her legal guardian because he seemed to young for that. Jeffry is only 24, and she's 16. He would've been 8 when she was born, he's not much older. She's also wandering how she could get legally adopted without her father signing over his rights, he already lied to the police force and she's now in the missing persons file. She didn't want to go back. She eventually agreed to the adoption, although weary of the consequences. Jeffry was the only person she somewhat trusted. They left the next day to sign the adoption papers and change her last name. The guy at the courthouse buried those files in the very back, knowing where Jackline came from. He knew if her father really cared, he'd look through each and every file. The guy thought Jeffry would be a better guardian, especially after everything. Jackline had a new identity, and a new family.
