She watched him through the water flowing down the white marble statue fountain, watching him talk to Amora. Amora, the graceful and lovely woman of a greater class, daughter of a rich business from a small European country. Her accent was stunning to the ears, her smile gorgeous to the eyes.
He laughed with her and there was a crinkle in his eyes, like joy.
Natalia tried to suppress the pain that was rising in her chest and hated herself for coming to this cocktail party full of rich snobs.
His laughs faded when he saw her for the first time in the night. Natalia didn't look away, only lifting her chin up higher. He was easily pulled in by her and had suddenly forgotten Amora beside him. His eyes were dilated with hurt and love, and so were hers.
She couldn't look even more beautiful. Oh how he longed for her.
Natalia slowly moved, and Loki's eyes followed her through the flowing water.
His stunning Natalia.
His beloved.
His heart.
She turned to walk away but he wasn't going to allow it. Not again.
"Loki?" Amora frowned when he started chasing after the petite redhead who was disappearing into the crowds.
Loki followed her, moving through crowds of people without bumping into any of them. His eyes followed the redhead until she left through the exit double doors.
Her make-up was getting all ruined by her tears now. And as if things couldn't getting any worse, it started pouring!
The rain drenched her lovely strapless cocktail dress and she fluttered her eyes closed, muttering a thanks to the dark sky.
Thanks for making me see the man I loved, and still love, flirt with another woman.
Thanks for the fact that he just saw me and I've made a complete idiot of myself.
Thanks for the hurt I feel.
But then, thanks to herself, for not telling him she loved him.
Those three words.
So easy to say to the wrong people.
But with the right person, she ruined everything all because she couldn't say them.
"Coward!"
She suddenly stopped with a gasp when she heard his voice.
She didn't care if he sounded bitter and angry.
It was his voice and she hadn't heard from him for so long.
She pursed her lips as tears escaped from her eyes, mixing with the raindrops.
She let out a shaky breath and slowly turned around. Pain twisted inside of her when she looked up at him. Even with an angry dark expression, he was still very handsome in her eyes.
His suit was getting drenched. His black hair was now wet. She missed him laying his head on her lap and she'd stroke his silky hair for minutes.
"Loki." She finally said, but nervously.
He walked down the steps until he was towering over her. She saw the wetness in his eyes. "Coward you are." His voice wavered.
She clenched her jaw.
He cupped her face with his large hands, breathing hard. "I won't say a thing, because you know exactly the words you draw from me. You know I will say how much I miss you, want you back to me, how much I love you."
She swallowed and tears ran down her cheeks. She let them freely flow because the rain washed them away. "Idiot." She tried to say bitterly but weakly chuckled. "You just told me everything."
He let out a breath and grinned. "Natalia." He blinked and leaned his face closer. "Please make this pain go away. I see it, too, in your eyes. I can be yours again. But only you can end this."
Say it.
Just tell him that you love him.
Love... is this really love?
She let out a small sob. "Loki, I can't!" She weakly slapped his chest.
The sadness in his puppy eyes didn't help at all.
"What is wrong with you?" His voice whispered. "Or what is it that is wrong me instead? Natalia, we are perfectly fit for one another. There is no other woman for me than you!"
"Stop touching me!" She growled and slapped his hands off her pretty face, glowering at him.
"Tell me you don't love me." He whispered, but the hurt clipped in his voice.
Her heart stung. "I-I can't..." She shook her head. "Loki, please. Go back to your date. She really is lovely. Amora, is it?"
"You dare ask me about another woman when I am right here trying to get back the love of my life!" He roared, making her gasp and flinch. He grabbed her by her arm to push her into him and growled, "Then say you hate me. Say it! That is what you truly feel isn't it? You love it when you drive me mad, don't you?"
"Loki--"
"Say it! Tell me you hate me!" He snarled, tightening his grip on her arm.
"I hate you! You asshole!" She snatched her arm back and pounded her fists on his chest. "I hate you! I hate you!"
An audience had formed above and Amora looked shocked. The blonde descended down the steps, not caring about the rain ruining her dress & make-up, and she came to Loki's defense. "Don't touch him like that!" She snapped at Natalia. "Leave at once."
Loki darkly glared at Natalia and watched her go.
The redhead climbed into a limousine and once it drove away, the stern glare on his face melted into anguish. "I hate you, too, Natalia Romanov." He softly declared, the words unheard by Amora who hugged him. Loki didn't notice it first until she started patting his back and he reluctantly wound his arms around her.
"Don't worry. You won't be seeing that woman again." Amora smiled and kissed the top of his head.
