Chapter 3

The next morning she took off all of her old makeup and clothes from yesterday and put on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. She really didn't care if there was anyone to impress. She was too stressed to deal with dressing up in any way, shape, or form.

Once she arrived at the station she was greeted by Hunter and the two deputies. The deputies were about to lead them to Sheriff Stone's office when Hunter commented, "don't worry boys we won't get lost, but you can tag along if you want to." Hunter and Samantha just smiled with a knowing look. They found the door they were looking for walked in and unceremoniously sat on the couch.

Hunter being Hunter and Samantha being Samantha they were in Sheriff Stone's office thirty minutes early. "What are you two doing here? You weren't supposed to arrive for at least twenty minutes."

Samantha being as snarky as she is said, "to be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late, and to be late is unexplainable. Wouldn't you agree Hunter?"

"Absolutely, Sammy. We couldn't keep you waiting."

Sheriff Stone slight confused replied, "Alright then. I'm going to go make sure everything is ready for you." With that he left the room fully closing the door after himself.

"Hunter, are there any mics or cameras in the room?"  Hunter looked at her and he shook his head no. "Wonderful. What in the world are we going to tell the sheriff? It's not like we'll let each other take the fall. I could never do that to you. In case they ask, do I have permission to tell them the whole story, from the beginning and I mean the very beginning."

Hunter looked at Samantha with full sincerity, "it's not my story to tell Sammy. I may have been a player in the story but it's yours and nobody else's.  Besides the people who would be upset if you told the story are dead. There is nothing Colin and Rose can do to stop you from telling your story." They heard someone knocking and they knew it might be the last time they ever saw each other. " I have to go Sammy just remember, I will always love you no matter what."

For the first time in years Samantha really knew that he meant what he said. "I love you too, Hunter. Just don't do anything stupid, like taking any of the blame for what happened with Julie."

"I make no promises."

"I know and that worries me. This is all my fault so let me take the blame. Now go before they think you ran away through a window or something, or that I'm completely crazy or conceded by saying I love you to myself."

Hunter just smiled and shook his head. Before he walked out the door he gave Samantha a mock salute and left her on her own in the sheriff's office.

It wasn't long before Deputy Dolo came for her. They walked out of the room and down the long hallway to a door. The Deputy gave her an apologetic look, "they're waiting for you. Good luck Ms. Queen."

Samantha opened the door to find not what she was expecting. She wasn't in the interrogation room. She had ended up in the room behind behind the mirror. "What am I doing here?"

"We thought you would want to watch the interrogation." She turned and saw Julie and Jason standing side by side right next to the two way mirror.

"Who's interrogation Julie?" The thought that Hunter was supposed to be interrogated at that moment had slipped her mind. The three of them stood in silence for a few moments.

"Hunter's, mother. Who else would it be? He is after all the one who tried to kill me."

Without thinking, like normal, she walked to the mirror in time to hear Hunter say, "it was all my idea to kill Julie. She was Samantha's last connection to her late husband, Colin Snow. I thought that once Julie was gone Samantha would come back to me and love me again."

"What did I tell you about doing something stupid!" She tried not to lose it again and all she could say was, "that's not why you did it and you know it. You did it because I asked and you love me." Her head was racing. This wasn't what they had agreed on.

Jason came up from behind her, "you could help him. Everyone knows you did it. You just say the word and he will be freed of all plausible changes."

"I'll do it. I don't want him to take the blame for something I'm responsible for. Especially my bad decisions."

He nodded and walked out the door Samantha had neglected to close. Next thing she knew Hunter was being unhandcuffed.
