Chapter I

The Birth of a Warrior

It was late at night when I was lying on my bed, and suddenly a loud sound thundered our place. In a few moments, I heard people outcry and screaming, “Intruders, intruders.”

I arose and watched what was really happening. When I stepped out of the door, I saw my friend Heleyna. She was running and was trying to escape from the attackers.

I carried her out and brought her to my shelter underneath the house. She was bleeding and becoming hastily shattered.

And when she was sleeping, I went out of the house to see how it was going on outside. I was dumbfounded; I saw devil-like figured monsters.

They have come to take our world. Our warriors were not erudite, and they were slowly defeated by the attackers, the Lenesians from the world of Lenesus – the world of the devils with fire powers.

Then, I went back to my shelter to see how Heleyna was.  After few moments, she opened her eyes with great misgivings. She whispered saying, “where am I?” and I softly replied, “Don’t worry, you are with me, you are safe.”

“What happened to our people?” she asked. “They are gone,” I answered. “I think this world shall be taken and our king shall be subdued,” I continued.

Momently, she slept because she was exhausted.

While she was quiescent, I started preparing the things that we need in travelling with the map that could lead us to our way. We were bound to find Hira, the magical path to the world of Jiyoshu, a long-time ally of our world, Helisha – the world of humans.

When the sun has not risen yet, I whispered to Heleyna saying, “Wake up, wake up, we are now leaving.” She slowly rose with my arms on her.

I prepared my ass and a wagon. With our belongings, we travelled.

It was not easy for me to take upkeep of her for she was not strong enough to travel. We needed to hide while rolling down the way for Lenesians watched all possible paths leaving the place.

As we went along the way, we were confronted by the magical forest, Tilma which according to tale was the place of the bigheaded wolves.

I decided to sojourn to let the coming cold night pass. As the sun was setting down, I prepared the tent for our shelter for the night to pass by.

It was cold. I was freezing even with my three-fold wrapping. And so Heleyna was, so that I gave her more than what I got.

When we were sleeping at the deep of the night, I heard a sound which I thought was brought by the blowing wind and ignored it.

I heard the same sound after few moments. Then, I decided to get up and check it all around.

I was subjugated when I saw a group of bigheaded wolves with their fire-like-colored eyes. I was frightened and it was stiff for me to move my feet.

Then, I tried to get closer with these wolves with my fears covering all over my body. I tried not to be perceived by these monsters but then, I suddenly felt that someone was behind me. So, I started to turn my head slowly and I was shaken, for it was one among those monsters. I was not moving. And the wolf was fiercely looking at me. I did not scream. For if I screamed the others might have been alarmed.

Then, the wolf that was in front of me started to talk and asked, “Who are you?” then, I replied with fear, “I am Celis, one of the warriors of this world.” “I was not able to fight against the Lenesians, for they have come in an unforeseen way.” “Then, why are you here?” he asked. “I am here with my friend Heleyna for we need to find Hira, the magical path to the world of Jiyoshu.” I answered.

“This world has been taken by the devils and this is the only place where we could have shelter” he said. “We are just passing by and tomorrow we will leave” I slowly told him. Then he took me by his mouth and brought me to his fellas.

“Hey, we got visitor” he shrieked to his fellas.

I was terrified and was not breathing suitably. When I looked on their eyes, I felt that it’s the end of me.

But, as I interspersed with them, I realized that, they were not an enemy. As I was speaking to one of them, he told me everything about their community. Some also came from our city Alken from which they were all considered outcasts and turned into wolves and were exiled to Tilma.

The one whom I first spoke to was Furg, one of the commanders of the legion before. And the other one was Degg a former chronicler. It was written in his book how their story began.

When I further talked to him, I learned that, they were all warriors from the seven cities of Helisha. They were bounded by a spell wherein, once they failed to defend their world they shall be turned into bigheaded wolves and shall be exiled.

The spell was given to them by the tyrant king Almi who ruled several centuries ago. And these wolves were forbidden to enter and shall only live outside the cities.

When these wolves found Tilma, they settled there and formed their community. Furg was a special commander for he was given the power to use magic. By the power that he acquired, he laid a magical spell that could fleece the place from creatures that had dark spirits where only the pure-hearted creatures can pass in the forest to also safeguard its dwellers.

Hours have passed then Furg came to me and said, “The fellas have agreed to protect you through your journey. We shall be on your side whenever you need us.”

I was awestruck when he said that. A new hope has just given to us. Then I told him, “I am very glad for that offer and it’s a help beyond measure.”

Then, I went back to our tent to tell Heleyna what I got from the wolves. When I came, she was sitting outside and crying. Then, I slowly draw near her and said, “Hey Heleyna, why are you crying?” “I just remember the people, our families, the children and all we got” she replied.

“I also think about them. We got to see the emancipator of our land, which according to the tradition shall come from the closest ally of our world. So, we must be hurry for the time is at hand that our world shall be destroyed by the devils soon” I responded.

And the morning was coming and the sun was rising. We packed our belongings and continued our journey. As we were travelling, I told Heleyna that we were being protected by the wolves by the magical power of their commander. I told her about the story which I experienced that night.

She was amazed of the wolves for she did not expect that the tale-mentioned creatures were as friendly as that.

We’ve been travelling for quite long when we were confronted by a lake that we needed to cross along. It was the Shilman Lake, the home of the potent mermaids.  But as we were approaching the lake, we were suddenly blown by a strong wind and rolled down. As we laid down the ground, we saw devils were coming to us.

They were seemingly to take us. But as they were approaching, six men have stood before us and fought against the devils. The six men have tried their finest but they were not strong enough to defeat the enemies.

The last man was standing but was bleeding and was becoming weak. He was not capable to fight any longer but he continued.  When he was about to fall, the wolves have come to our rescue. The wolves fiercely fought against the devils. Because the devils were outnumbered by the wolves, they were driven back and left the place. But the wolves have not stayed for long for they needed to return to Tilma to protect it from enemies.

As we attained peace momentarily, we came close to the six men. I asked them, “Who are you?” one replied and said, “I’m Alfred a warrior from the city of Zedum, that’s Hans from Tauri, Albert from Desan, Nuke from Lanius, Paul from Harigma, and Xeron from Futa.” “How about you?” he asked, “I am Celis, also a warrior and my friend Heleyna, we are from Alken City” I replied.
