Chapter 35 - The Hike of a Lifetime

Chris' alarm went off and he heard Holly turn next to him. He was already awake, or rather he hadn't slept much.The butterflies in his stomach were keeping him from getting a good night's rest. He turned to Holly, and saw her open her eyes slowly and blink a few times. "What are you staring at", she said, and then turned to him. "You", he said, smiling. She smiled and put her palm on his face, trying to close his eyes. He just gently took her hand and kissed it. "Let's go, we're going to be late", he said. "I don't understand why today of all days you want to go for a hike", she said, slowly getting out of bed. "Because, its Sunday and we both have days off and I feel like it", he said, standing up and stretching. Holly went into the bathroom and changed into a red racer-back top and black leggings and pulled her hair into a ponytail. Chris changed into a tshirt and cargo shorts and went to the kitchen to get some breakfast ready. Holly went down after putting on her shoes and picked up some water bottles for them to take with them. "Mmm, smells good", she said, sitting on the counter with a cup of coffee. "here", he said, putting some scrambled eggs and a piece of toast on her plate. "babe, can you get me some jam? I feel like something sweet", she said, taking a bite of her eggs. Chris pulled out the jar and placed it in front of her with a knife and then places his own plate next to hers.

"I can't believe my dad told you about my hike trail", she said, as they pulled the car up to the start of the trail. "Yeah, I can't believe you haven't told me before", he said, taking two bottles of water. "I haven't been here in a while though, and I haven't told anyone about it, except my dad and now he's told you. When did you guys start chatting so much?", she asked, locking the car and walking ahead. "We chat occasionally, it's no big deal", he said, following her. "Yeah, and yesterday, with my mom! It's like staying a week with them and suddenly you're a part of the family", she said. "She was asking about some acting stuff, apparently that Hayes kid is quite keen, so Mrs Hayes asked your mom to speak to me", Chris said. "Oh, she didn't tell me that", Holly said, feeling slightly left out. "It really wasn't anything babe, just a question", he said, making her feel at ease. "This is a 2 hour hike, ready?", she asked, looking at Chris. "Ready", he said, smiling back. Luckily it was only 10am and still not very crowded. Chris and Holly started walking the trail and talking about the Avengers promotions. "So, it starts with LA, then New York, a bunch of places in Europe, then Japan, and Hong Kong, although I may be getting the order mixed up. One month, twelve premiers I think and a ton of press and travelling.", he said, scrunching his face. "Wow, sounds great but tiring", she said. "Please please come with me?", he asked. "A month?", she said, looking amused. "Preferably but at least some of it?", he said. "I told you before, I don't know, I'll see, it's still a few weeks away", she said. "Yeah, but I have to let them know so they book your tickets with mine, so we need to decide by today. What can I do that'll convince you to come?", he said, walking beside her. "What do you mean? Nothing, I have to see, I have a a business to run", she said. "Yeah but you said, things have picked up and are going well right? And don't you have to go to Europe around that time anyway?", Chris argued. "Yes, things are going well, because I am here, making sure they go well, and no I don't because I already finished my work when I went before London", she said.

An hour later, almost at the middle of the trail, they came to the waterfall. Holly stopped and looked at Chris, "Want to rest for a bit?". "Yeah, let's do that", he said, sitting down on the ground, near the waterfall. "Aah, this is good", he said, leaning his head back and closing his eyes. "Yeah, I love it here", she said, taking a sip from the bottle and sitting down beside him. They sat in silence for a bit, listening to the waterfall, feeling the few stray drops on their skin. Chris' stomach was flipping around, as he thought of how he was going to ask her. He looked at her, sitting peacefully, and smiled. "Babe?", he said. Holly looked at him and said, "Yeah?". Chris started to stand up and brush the dirt from his shorts and then helped Holly up too. "I've been thinking, about us, about what I want. The past year had been so great, everyday with you, I've never been happier.", he said and fidgeted wit his pocket. "Me too", Holly said, as he paused. "I love you, more then I ever thought I could love anyone and I want this, us, for the rest of my life. This is it for me hun", he said, kneeling down on one knee. Holly jumped and covered her mouth with her hands, repeating "Oh my God" a few times and emotionally somewhere between laughing and crying. "Holly Bennett, I love you and I'll always love you and I want you by my side for the rest of my life. Will you marry me?", he said, opening the box and holding it his hand. Holly squealed and quickly said, "Yes! oh my god yes!" and bent down and hugged him tightly. "I love you", she whispered as he pulled her up, as he stood up. He silently took the gorgeous 4 carat cushion cut ring and slid it on to her finger, before kissing her.
