That first glance many years ago
The wink, the smile, the stare
Only 16, how were we to know?
That our love would always be there.
The first kiss, the first dance, nobody else mattered
As you twirled me round the floor
Our hearts entwined as our feet pattered
You twirled me round some more.
Then 2 years later I said "I do"
We laughed, we scrimped,we saved
All that mattered was me and you
The love we'd always craved.
Then war broke out,that dreadful fate
The news I dreaded to hear
"Missing in action", it's too late
No sign of you for a year.
But then as if God willed it so
The good news telegram
"He's found!" I cried, my face aglow
I've got him back...my man!
Now 45 yrs later as we celebrate
We've had our ups and downs
But through them all we'd never hate
And try to cover our frowns.
We had 45 good years they can't take away
You take your last breath in my arms
I'll never forget till my dying day
How you captured me with your charms.
Our love was so deep, I'm eternally yours
The memories will always stay
My slumbering dreams will take their course
And send me floating your way.
