chapter 1
I walked into Smart-Mart to buy a new camera. the store was empty except for three other people and the girl sitting by the register. As I started to walk towards the technology section there was one person who caught my eye. He was tall probably only three inches taller than me. His skin was a dark mocha color. The one thing that really stood out to me were his eyes, there were a bright green. They were the type of eyes you could get lost in if you looked in them for too long. He seemed familiar, really familiar. I scanned my brain for an explanation. I was still trying to figure out where I knew him from when he walked up to me. "Excuse me can I help you with that" he said pointing to the shakey paper in my hand. I looked down to the paper as if my answer was somewhere on the page. I looked at him and said " I saw this camera online do you sell it here?" "oh yea follow me". when we got over to the cameras I tried to think of something other than "your cute" but he interrupted my thoughts when he said something but I didn't quite hear it because I was busy staring at him and his beautiful eyes. He repeated himself "is this the camera you are looking for?". He held up a really small version of the camera in the catalog. "I don't know this one seems pretty cool" I said pointing to a camera that was probably way out of my budget. I picked it up and turned it on I think I accidently pushed a button or something because after I picked it up the flash went off. "are you taking pictures of me?" he asked in a playful voice. "no I was trying to turn it on and..." "it's okay I was just joking". I saw him pick up another camera and turn it on. He put his finger on the shutter release and took a picture of me. "now we're even". I don't know what came over me because suddenly my finger was holding down the shutter release. I took another picture and he took another picture. It kept going like this for a while until we were laughing so hard we were in tears. I sat down on a bench to look at the pictures and he sat down next to me. "My name is Steven" "My name is Rayna" "I like it" "you like what?" "your name" "oh" I looked up at him and for a slight second everything was silent then he kissed me. Our lips were touching. It was like all my thoughts of which camera has the best focus fluttered away like papers in the wind. he was beautiful. we were beautiful. It felt like for once everything was perfect, then his phone rang and it was over. "I am so sorry that's my sister I have to go pick her up" "yea I get it, I should go check out" I said pointing to the camera in my hand. " sure I'll ring you up". He started walking towards the register I followed. "That will be $186.99" I took my dad's credit card out of my pocket and slid it across the card swiper. when he handed me the receipt to sign I wrote my number on the side hoping he would use it. I grabbed my bag and walked out of the store to my car. When I got home my dad asked me a bunch of questions. "Where were you? What did you get? Why did you take so long? why is the bag purple?". okay maybe not that last one. I answered all the questions carefully excluding the crush I have on the employee. Then I went upstairs to look at the pictures we took. Five minutes later my phone buzzed I thought it was my Best friend autumn but it wasn't, a name didn't come up it was just a number when I opened the message it read " Hey its Steven :) ". The only thing in my mind all week was Steven. I had been texting Steven all week I tried finding excuses to go to Smart-mart multiple times throughout the week and I was only successful once when my dad asked me to get batteries. As I walked in the store to go pick up the batteries I saw a quick glance of his bright green eyes. I knew he had seen me too, but I just kept moving in the direction of the batteries as if I didn't know he was there. Right when I thought the store couldn't get any bigger I reached the batteries. It kind of felt weird not saying Hi but it was too late to turn back. when I reached the register I didn't see anyone. it was quiet too quiet so i skimmed the store in search of someone. then that's when I screamed.
CHAPTER 2
someone grabbed me by the waist and lifted me off the floor. I saw him standing there with his bright green eyes and his dark brown hair. He almost looked like a model if you disregard the smart-mart polo T-shirt and those kackys that make everyone want to barf. when he placed me gently back on the ground I punched him on the shoulder like in those corny movies when the couple pretend fights. "what were you thinking! you better be glad I don't know ju-jitsu I would have totally beaten you to a pulp." "well I am so glad you don't because I kinda need my face for Wednesday." "ooh what's Wednesday picture day?" I said in a sarcastic voice. "No I have a date!" I knew it was too good to be true a guy like this probably kisses tons of girls while shopping for a cameras. "oh cool" I said trying to sound enthusiastic. I clearly failed. "Yea the girl I'm taking is bomb... she is a great kisser... I mean WOW!" ouch that hurts thanks for rubbing it in. "cool" "you are so clueless" "huh" "I'm talking about you!!" "oh you are! great um... you know if you wanted to ask me out you didn't have to put me through all that... you could have just asked me if I wanted to go out Wednesday." " yea but it was more fun" "oh yea so Mr.Comedian what are we doing Wednesday?" "it's a surprise" At that moment I knew that this would be the longest two days of my life. Finally Wednesday came and each class felt like an eternity. when I got to seventh period, I was so anxious I just whipped through the history questions that the teacher gave us. when I finished I just sat there awkwardly wondering what to do, until the teacher interrupted "Attention Class! we have a new student". "oh great" I thought "another person in this class that is clearly full" until I saw him. It was Steven at my school I thought for sure I was dreaming and I would wake up asleep in history class. "class this is Steven". When he turned around to face the class he looked directly at me. When our eyes met he looked genuinely surprised. Once Mrs. Collins finished talking about treating the new students as you would want to be treated she told him "sit anywhere you would like". I knew even before he started walking towards me that the seat next to me that was currently empty wouldn't be for long. When he sat down he started to look through his backpack. it gave me some time to fix my hair and sit up straight. When he found what he was looking for he pulled out a small notebook and plopped it down on his desk. "what's that" I asked trying to start a conversation. "I didn't know you went to river springs" he said as if he was avoiding my question. "yea, I thought you went to Abram's?" "Yea I did but I had a few problems there so my parents transferred me here." "What kind of problems?" I asked in a curious tone. " Just the environment" "oh" I knew that wasn't the answer but I didn't really feel like prying into his personal life. "So does this mean I'm going to see you more often" "Yea I guess so" I said excitedly " I'll like that" "me too". the thought of seeing him more often was exciting. When the bell rang I realized that it meant two things, it meant my date was in 4 hours and that I had someone to walk home with.
