Prologue
It was Friday night. Unlike any other girl in the city spending their Friday nights out, Claire lays awake in her bed, thinking, mesmerizing her own little world. She kept herself isolated in that room... pondering. It is better to be alone because no one could hurt you and you could hurt no one. She indulged herself on the thought.
Krrrriing! Krrriing! The phone by the breakfast bar rings. She quickly ran through the stairs. Coming down the stairs that quick without any bruises is a miracle, knowing how clumsy she is.
She was panting as she reached for the phone. She took a deep breath and held it. "Hello?"
"Hey Clairey, what's up? Are you busy right now?" A guy on the other line asked.
"Oh, David you called." She uttered with her high-pitched voice that she couldn't even recognize it herself. She wanted to sound as innocent and bored as she can as if she was not anticipating his call. "I'm fine, just reading some books." She lied unconvincingly. "Well, what is it this time?"
"Oh, Nothing much." He sounds casual, but he seems different...
David was the worst guy she could ever imagine herself being with. He calls her every night just to intentionally brag about the girls he was hitting on with. Claire would impatiently hate him for that. Yet, she became very fond of him. She stays up late every night, spending hours on the phone.

Chapter 1.
Claire used to hangout on the beach alone. She would sit by her favorite spot, under a big palm tree, and listen to her favorite soulful jazz and blues playlist with her iPod while reading books. She would also write songs sometimes when she brings the guitar along with her. She often comes to watch the sunset. She adores it.
Nothing could get any better than a peaceful day like this. And so she thought.
One cozy afternoon on the beach, she was about to leave her spot when a sudden deafening loud horn and disrupting screech of tires outrageously alarmed her. Her eyes grew wide as she caught the sight of a 4X4 Nissan pick-up truck rushing towards her. The next thing she knew, everything was pitch-dark. She had blacked-out. After a few minutes, she was abruptly awakened by some arrogant man with quite an offending tone of voice, though there was a hint of concern in his voice. He sounded like someone she knew.
"Hey, wake up! Are you all right?" A strange guy was shaking her terribly.
"What were you thinking for standing on my way like that? Are you that much sick of your life that you wanted to die?"
The man's face was blushed red, or seemingly tanned from the sun. But his gray eyes were deep and gloomy. Her vision was still blurry but she felt a strange sadness through those eyes. She almost blacked out again when she saw the bumper halted one feet away from her body. Luckily, she was just lying there unscratched.
But the man was shouting right to her face now. She couldn't hear the words clearly, but felt quite irritated by his menacing words. Hey, this guy's getting on my nerves. What is he fussing about? Am I not the victim here? Why is he so mad? She thought. Her emotions were now heated up by anger. She managed to raise herself up and regained consciousness as she caught sight of her guitar awfully wrecked with a huge surfing board leaning on top of it. She burst out a wail of a terrifying grief as if someone has just died infront of her. "Oh no.. " She turned around and stared quite sternly at the hideous man, the culprit for her not very unfortunate disaster. She raised a hand and slapped him on the face.
"You freak! What have you done?! You just ruined the most valuable thing in my whole life! You'll never get away with this!" She caught sight of the guitar again, tears filled her eyes. "Ah I.. how could you.." She couldn't even utter her words.
The man was taken aback, he ran his hands through his hair and held up both hands on his face. He was shocked but slightly amused by the stinging slap he took, that he could hardly manage to hide a smirk. This gaunt girl can throw a slap like a punch.
"Wait a minute here. I was really concerned earlier that I almost panicked seeing your face flushed. I thought you were hurt, but you aren't really hurt, are you? You obviously are stronger than you look." He smiled at her. She thought that his smile was divine, his gray eyes glowered unlike what she saw when she first woke up from the blackout. She just blinked her eyes at him. But her mind took her back to the sight her guitar getting wrecked. She frowned. "Look, I can take you to the hospital if you need medication." He tried to explain quite calmly. He noticed that she wasn't paying attention. Claire was staring blankly away from the sight that welled up her eyes and started to walk away slowly. The man thought she was walking away ignoring him. "Damn it! Are you deaf? You were the one who was standing on my way. I blasted the horn at you and you just stood there." He was now pointing his index finger at her. He hates being ignored and he will not let her get away with hassle she had caused him. "Do you know what it means when someone yanks there engine at you? Let me spell that out to you missy. It means G-E-T L-O-S-T! You stupid cunt." Her mouth went wide open with shock at his language. She turned quite swiftly. He stiffened, alarmed by the dark look in her eyes. "Hey you.. !" She mouthed at him. But before she could to utter another word, David turned to his heel away from her almost running away. He went to straighten up his surfboard and checked for damage.
"Shit!" He grunted as he saw the rear end of the board that got ripped off. "Now this is what I get from bumping off with some stupid bitch dressed like a chunky old lady from a thousand centuries ago on a sunny beach like this? This vacation just couldn't get any worse." He muttered exasperatingly. He turned slightly to look at her from the corner of his eye. His eyes grew wide as Claire took a stride at him, caught the culprit off guard and knocked him down with a strong hard blow of a small but solid fist to his face.
That was how they met.
