"Hurry, hurry! Don't be late!" The call rang out into the night. In the distance, a small girl with a lantern ran along the path. The quiet 'pitter, patter' of her steps were all that was heard in the still of the night. It was a peaceful night in the town of Newsville. Not a soul was around, or so it was thought. The small girl's steps cam to halt. The whole town was dead still, only for a moment. A deathly scream ran out, piercing the still, quiet night. Lights came on, people awoke, the town came back to life. The citizens of Newsville ran out of their homes to see what had happened. Out on the path, a smashed lantern laid. Next to it was the lifeless body of the small girl. Her face was frozen in a petrified look of sheer terror. Authorities came and investigated, but nothing was found. The body had no puncture wounds, or signs of harm. Externally, the body was fine. The area was searched, but nothing was found. The only evidence was the body and lantern.
Weeks passed and the search continued, yet nothing was found. The small girl was later identified as 'Anna', a small homeless girl. She wondered the streets at night, collecting anything she could find. She was even accused of stealing from houses at night. She had no family, so the body was buried next to the path where she was found. A small white cross was placed on the grave with the name 'Anna' written on it. The investigations stopped and everyone went back to their normal, everyday lives.
A year and a half after 'Anna' was buried, a man by the name of Jonas came to the town of Newsville on a camping trip. One night he heard a loud 'CLANG' outside of his tent. He went to have a look at what it was, only to find that one of his pots had fallen over. He stood it up again and went back into his tent. Then later that night he heard another 'CLANG', but thought it was just his pot again, so he ignored it. In the morning he awoke to find that all of his belongings had been strewn all over the place. As he started to clean them up, he had an amazing discovery. One of his bags that had contained his clothes, now held about ten skulls. He screamed, dropping the bag and ran. As he was running, he tripped over and fell in a hole. At that moment, he found he was face to face with a headless skeleton, should i say, headless to headless with the skeleton. With a little bit of trouble, he clambered out of the hole and ran for his life. He went to the police and notified them of his discoveries, and showed them the hole. The hole where headless 'Anna' laid.
The police investigated to find that the skull belonged to graves around the area. All had been opened and only the skulls had been removed. Jonas was thanked for notifying them and was given a hotel room to stay in for the rest of his trip. The hunt was now on to find the grave-robber. And what perfect bait was Jonah!
It's five am and poor Jonas had been standing out in the rain for hours. The bait, well he thought that was a bad idea. He was cramped, sore cold and wet, what else could go wrong. Maybe the grotesque murders and grave-diggers of Newsville could turn up for the party? As his thought drifted, he noticed something reflecting off the ground. It was a metal hook. On the end of the hook was a piece of cloth. Jonas sniffed the cloth. Bad idea. He suddenly felt sleepy and drifted off. He might not have been the brightest (for many reasons), but he still knew what this was. Chloroform. Then he hit the ground hard.
When Jonah awoke, he was surrounded by locals, police officers, everyone. They cheered and clapped with all their might. Then they explained what had happened. The cloth with the chloroform was the key to 'Anna's' death. She had been suffocated and left. The murders were also the grave-robbers. They like to keep the skulls of their victims as trophies. They had come back to collect 'Anna's' skull and decided to get some others along the way. They had been caught in the local graveyard last night and are currently in jail. Jonas was their hero. He spent a few more day there before heading home. Get the joke there - HEADING home!
