"Tori"
"Victoria? It's Victoria, right?" She asked with hesitation in her voice. I was dumbfounded. It took me a second to take in what was happening.
"Uhm, yes Ms. Carlsson, but my friends call me Tori" I responded stuttering, she must have thought I was retarded or something. I couldn't even look her in the eyes properly, she was so intimidating I thought I was gonna start blushing. And to top all of that I've just lied to her, I thought. My friends don't call me Tori because they're nonexistent.
"I just wanted to ask you how you've been doing so far? Because I know that you'd transferred here before the school year started, is that right?"
"Oh, yes, I'm doing just fine Ms. Carlsson, thank you." My palms were sweating so I discreetly wiped them on my jeans while she was looking at some papers on her desk.
"I see that your last year's GPA was one of the best in your class. I hope this year you're going to do as good if not better." She spoke slowly as if still trying to gather het thoughts.
"I'll do my best Ms. Carlsson" For you, I thought and immediately scolded myself mentally. Where was this coming from?
How did she know all of this? I thought. None of the papers scattered around her desk contained such knowledge. No student around here knew where I trasferred from nor what was my GPA and teachers simply didn't care about that.
"You'd better" She said and a beautiful smile appeared on her face. I was on the verge of losing my mind. I had to hold back a gasp that was desperately trying to leave my mouth. I was completely mesmerized by the view and probably stared a little too much.
Ms. Carlsson was gathering her belongings while I still stood in the same spot not moving an inch.
Then she looked in my direction again and chuckled quietly. Her smile grew even bigger, it definitely reached her eyes.
"You can go now, you know. I'm sure you've got other classes to attend."
It was as if I got struck by a lighting, I immediately snapped back to reality. I felt my cheeks and ears get warm from embarrassment. I'm positive she could see the obvious blush.
"I'm sorry Ms. Carlsson, I... I just have a lot on my mind" Not a complete lie, I thought. I didn't dare look into her eyes so I just mumbled a simple goodbye and walked towards the door.
I opened it and as I was about to leave the classroom I could've sworn I heard her say:
"Goodbye... Tori"
I went straight to my locker feeling overwhelmed. Did she really just call me Tori? I thought. I didn't expect her to remember my little nickname I was so fond of, not to mention I didn't expect her to actually use it. She said it in a friendly, cheerful manner that made my heart skip a beat. Hearing her say it like that made me like her even more.
I opened my locker and grabbed some necessities for the next class. I was putting them in my bag when someone approached me from behind startling me.
"Rodriguez, restroom, now" Alycia whispered directly to my ear and I shivered.
Before I had the time to respond I felt a pull on my arm dragging me in a familiar direction.
Alycia wasn't alone. She was accompanied by the dark skinned girl whose name I couldn't recall.
"What are you doing?!" I shouted when they shoved me against one of the sinks.
The first punch that landed on my face was their response...
