Late

"Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit!" I run down the steps two at a time, trying not to fall. I'm going to be late on my first day to a new school.

Dad is gunna kill me if he finds out.

I snatch my bag on the way out the door and take my keys out of my pocket. I open the car to my 2007 Volvo and throw my bag into the other seat and sit.

"Fuck, I'm almost outta gas," I say to myself starting the car. Glancing over my shoulder I speed out of the driveway and pretty much speed to school.

I glance at my phone '8:32', I'm going to be late. Please don't let there be red lights.

Managing to make it through yellow lights, I made it just in time. I look down at a slip of paper and it reads, 'don't forget to go to the principal' 's office for your schedule.'

Face-palming I grumble, "oh ya." Checking the time, I realize it should've taken 10 minutes to get here, but I took 5. Better not let dad find out.

I walk into the main office and am greeted by an older lady. "Hello, how can I help you?"

I give a smile and simply say, "I'm here to see the principal."

"Oh yes, second door on the left," she says pointing to the hallway.

I nod and walk out into the crowded hallway. It's full of people, all sorts of them too. My last school wasn't this diverse; this is better. I reach the principal's office after weeving my way through the bodies and open the door. My senses were then overwhelmed by the smell of lavender.

There are a bunch of family photos on the wall and some seats in front of a very organized desk. Not knowing what to do, I sit and wait for someone to show up. Just a few moments later I hear the door click.

"Oh hello young man, I hope you weren't waiting long."

I turn around to look at who was talking. A younger man, maybe mid thirties, with natural orange hair.
"Oh, no, I just got here. I wasn't sure what to... Uh... Do, so I just sat down."

"Oh, OK, good. So you must be our new student then?" He asks while sitting down.

"Yes sir, I'm Galen Brooks," I address, "I'm here to get my schedule?"

He raises his eyebrow and says, "you don't sound too thrilled. I could always unenroll you."

I immediately sit up straight with my eyebrows raised as far as they can go. "No sir, I'm very excited. I've never been in this type of school before," I breathlessly say.

He chuckles at my reaction. "I'm only joking. Here's your schedule," he assures me.

I heavily breathe out and grab the paper in front of my face. I whisper a thank you and head to the door and hear, "Better hurry, Mrs. Hummly is not a force to be reckoned with."

I turn around only to see no one there anymore. I felt my skin go pale as my skin formed goosebumps. Shaking my head, I navigate my way through the hallways and find myself in front of my classroom door.
