"Yo, Johnny, where you going?" Carter shouted to Johnny as he ran up to the roof of the apartment building.
"Just leave me alone," Johnny said as he slammed the door behind him. All Johnny could think was about the call he had just gotten, and how it would affect his life. It was his mom calling to tell him that his dad had just died from his prostate cancer. Johnny wanted to be left alone. He sat down on the ground and started to cry. Just as he put his head in his hands, he heard a rumble from above. He looked up to see rain clouds rolling in. The rain started to fall on Johnny. Liz slowly opened the door and said,
"Johnny, its gonna start to rain pretty hard soon, do you wanna come in and talk to us?" Johnny heard Liz's words, and they made sense. It showed that his friends cared about him. But all he wanted was to be left alone.
"No thanks," said Johnny.
"Alright, well, you know where to find us if you need anything," Liz said as she walked down the stairs back to the party. Johnny sat on the roof as rain drops fell on his back. He very quickly realized that he was about to get soaked. He stood up and started walking towards the door. Lighting struck from the clouds down to a puddle-and Johnny's left arm. He felt a surge of power go through his body. It felt like he was on fire, but at the same time, he felt freezing cold. He felt like he was in a bubble, like he was in his own world, and the outside world was moving in slow motion.
He walked through the door and down the steps. As he walked out the door sopping wet, Liz stopped him and said,
"Johnny! You're soaked! What happened?" It took a moment for Johnny to comprehend what was going on, and all he said was,
"My dad died, then I got struck by lighting." Liz looked shocked and concerned. Johnny turned around and left.
That night after he left the party and went back to his apartment. His phone was buzzing on and off from the second he left the party, until it died in the cab. There was only one thing going through his head, Dad. He didn't know what to do. He didn't want to go to the hospital and see him. It was too soon. As he got ready for bed, he had a strange feeling in his left arm where he was struck. "Of course it's gonna feel weird," he thought, "I was just struck by lighting." For the sake of his feelings, he decided this was all a dream, plugged in his phone, turned off his light, and went to sleep.
The next morning, he woke up and checked his phone. 1 missed call and a voicemail from Mom, 12 missed calls and 12 voicemails from Liz, 4 missed calls and 1 voicemail from Carter. The realization that last night really happened came rushing back. He started by calling his mom about dad. After that he took a shower and went over to Liz and Carters. He knocked on their door and Liz answered right away.
"Johnny!" She said giving him a big hug. "Come on in, do you wanna talk? About your dad?"
"Talk, yes. About my dad, no," Said Johnny.
"Oh, okay. Well, I'll go get Carter." Johnny laid down on their couch as Liz went into Carter's room. When they came out, Carter walked up to Johnny and pounced on him with a big bear hug.
"Hey man. How you doing?"
"Fine," Johnny said while taking off his jacket.
"I'm gonna make some coffee, do you guys want some?" Said Liz making her way to the kitchen. Carter and Johnny both mutter yes.
"Hey Liz, could I have some water too?" Asked Johnny
"Yeah, sure," When Liz carried the coffee and water over to them she said, "So you said you wanted to talk to us? I know that you're really shaken up about everything but we were really worried and we have some questions if you don't mind."
