Your eyes fluttered slowly open. Just a few moments ago, your best friend was beside you, talking to you. However, she didn't sound like the Chitanda you knew back in high school. She sounded more mature, and you weren't sure wether you liked it or not.
You squinted your eyes shut. Thinking made your brain hurt. Not that it was already pounding. These constant headaches were making your life a living misery. As if being in cast from head to toe wasn't bad enough.
You wanted to move, to walk around, but you were trapped in layers of white bandages. It pained you, and made you frustrated, but you couldn't do anything about it. When you tried to explain to the nurses that you felt trapped, they just put you on more medication and told you everything was going to be okay.
You mentally sighed, then closed your mind for a few minutes. You blocked out the cries and laughter of the children in the same ward as you, and focused your mind on the chirping sounds of the birds. You wanted to smile, but it hurt to move muscles.
That's when you started to feel sick, as in vomit sick. Your belly made a strange noise as you felt the vomit travel up your throat. You opened your mouth, and be sick. You kept on continuing to vomit until finally nurses and cores rushed over to you.
Your head felt dozy and you felt yourself falling asleep as you were rushed out of that ward. Finally, you blacked out, dreaming of swirling patterns and a sly, grinning, Sho.
-
You finally awoke, only to find yourself in a new, different ward. It was much quieter then the children's ward, and there were hardly any colours or pictures. You also noticed that half of your casts had been taken off, and you felt much stronger! You smiled, a full smile from ear to ear, and closed your eyes.
It felt good to finally be out of some casts, but not all of them had disappeared. You sighed, wondering how long it would be till you were fully clear. Surely it wouldn't be that long...would it?
It suddenly occurred to you that you had no idea of the date. And it also occurred to you, that by your bed was a table with a calendar. You stared at the date. Your eyes widened, with shock. A hand went over your mouth, you started to shake slightly.
"It couldn't of been...no..." You whispered. You checked the date again, and again, and again. Finally you had the courage to ask as a nurse came and attended to the patient opposite you. "Excuse me!"
The nurse turned her head, then smiled at you. "I see your finally awake. Did you enjoy your tea-by the way?"
"My tea?" You repeated. "I never had any tea! In fact my throat is burning for liquid!"
"But Miss Chiyoki, you just had tea ten minutes ago. Surely you can't be thirsty again!" The nurse said, coming over to you. Your heart rate increased, fear flooding your brain.
"No I didn't..." You repeated quietly. "The last thing I remember was vomiting then being rushed out of the Willow Ward!"
The nurse chuckled, re-positioning your blankets. "Miss Chiyoki, that was two years ago."
"Two years-two years?!" You shouted, waking up some of the patients. "That was not two years ago, it wasn't! It was at least eight, at least eight minutes ago! I have not been asleep for two years!"
"Please, Miss Chiyoki calm down!" The nurse said, trying to hold you down. "Your waking some of the other patients, who are in need of a good rest!"
"I don't care!" You screamed, tears filling up your eyes. "I don't care! I refuse! I refuse to believe that I have been asleep for two years! I did not just have tea! I'm thirsty! I've only been asleep for eight minutes! Don't lie to me, hospitals aren't supposed to lie to their patients!"
You continued to ramble on, until you felt a sharp sting in your elbow. You glanced down and saw a needle pierced through your pale skin. You were about the complain, when you felt yourself getting sleepy. You lied back down, your eyes slowly closing.
