The stars had disappeared into the sky. All that could be seen were dark, grey clouds. The cold air blew, stinging her eyes and freezing her skin. She walked alone as the night grew colder, darker, with no one by her side.
At every corner all she could she were lights. She saw fir tress covered in lights, clothing stores covered in lights, it seemed like every inch of the city was drenched in strands of bright, colorful lights.
Every direction she walked in she could hear music. Music about presents and reindeer, about snow and roasting chestnuts. Everywhere she heard it she could see people singing along, with happiness and joy in their eyes.
And there was never a time when she saw someone with a frown on their face. During this time, everyone was happy. She saw children chasing each other grinning from ear to ear. She saw couples holding hands and drinking hot chocolate. She saw teenagers laughing as they took pictures on their cellphones. Anyone could sense all the joy in the air.
But to her, the stars were still gone, and the clouds were still grey. It was still cold outside and she still felt pain. She had no one to hold hands with, or no other teenage friends laugh with. She was the only one with a frown on her face. Christmas was sad to her, it's about spending time with friends and family, but what if she didn't have any?
