Chapter 9

BANG! The gun went off, but the bullet didn't hit Hunter, it hit Seth. Seth fell to the ground as Seth grabbed his stomach, trying to staunch the bleeding.

Hunter looked over to see who did it. It was not Lexi or the police officer, but it was Julian.

Julian stood there with the gun poised waiting to see if he'd have to shoot again.

"Hunter!"

Hunter held his breath. Did he just hear Lexi?

"Hunter!" It was her.

Hunter ran toward the voice. "Lexi?"

"Hunter!" she yelled as she came into his view.

Hunter reached her and held her tightly, forgetting for a moment that she had cheated on him.

"Thank God you're okay," she told him.

"That cop," he began. "Is that Lukas Daniels?"

Lexi nodded slightly. "Yeah," she answered, her voice only a horse whisper.

"He's dead," Julian said. Hunter forgot he was there.

"What?" Lexi cried. "He can't be dead."

"Lexi, I'm sorry. I watched Seth do it. He told me to bring him to the back."

"Can I see him?" she asked, tears blurring her vision.

Julian nodded and started to walk, but just as fast as he shot Seth, he turned, aiming the gun at Lexi.

"You're so gullible, Hunter. I cannot believe you fell for that," he said.

"Why did you shoot Seth?" Lexi asked.

"Because I want to kill you. And him-" he motioned to Hunter- "but Seth was in the way of that. Since he gave me a gun, I thought I might get rid of him. But of course, Hunter were there. Then, I realized I could get you two on my side by saving him."

"Put the gun down, Julian," she said.

"Sure, I'll get right on that," he replied sarcastically.

"Lexi," a voice croaked. Luk.

"Luk will kill you," Lexi told Julian.

"I wouldn't bet on it," Luk said.

Hunter spun around to face him, but he was too late. Luk punched Hunter in the jaw, knocking him down.

Lexi moved to stop him from hurting Hunter, but Julian slammed the butt if the gun on her head.

The last thing she saw was Luk and Julian kicking Hunter into unconscienceness.
