It was Thanksgiving and my family flew in from North Dakota. My sister was now eight months pregnant and she was so beautiful.
She stood up during dinner with her husband and said, "We have announcement.."
"Well you can't be engaged or pregnant, so let's hear it!" My dad said causing the whole table to laugh
"Anthony and I have decided that we are going to be moving to Chicago. Our lease is up on our apartment and we want a house for our daughter. We bought a place a little outside the city and we'll be moving in next week."
I stood up and I hugged my older sister.
"Congratulations! I can't wait to have you closer."
Everyone was excited for her, but my parents were going to miss her so much and their granddaughter.
Around six pm, I had to leave to go to the United Center. We had a game tomorrow night in Dallas.
Dallas was a tough win, but we pulled through.
Before I knew it, I was helping my very pregnant sister and her husband move into their new house, it was beautiful.
I wasn't allowed to see the baby nursery as it wasn't quite done and Allison wanted to surprise me.
"How is my godchild?" I asked siting next to my sister
I was the first one who knew about her pregnancy and right there she asked me to be the godmother.
"She's good, ready to come out!"
"I can't wait to meet her... She's going to be beautiful."
"Any day now.." Allison said putting a hand on her large belly
Tomorrow mom was flying in. Dad, Dylan, and Court were all going to drive down once she was in labor.
"What's her name?" I asked dying to know
"You'll have to wait and see." She said laughing
"I can't wait any longer.." I said
I slept at my sister house and I picked my mom up from the airport around noon.
I dropped my mom off at my sisters and I headed to practice.
Practice was awesome, Kaner wasn't there which made my life a whole lot easier. Q cancelled the workout after practice as everyone was super sore from leg day yesterday.
I headed back to my sister place and they had finished the nursery. When Allison opened the door, it brought tears to my eyes...
It was a light pink room.. It had a crib, dressed, changing table, and other cute things. The theme was elephants. An elephant represents courage.
I shared a room with Allison growing up. We had the exact same themed room.
"I want my daughter to have an amazing childhood, just like we did in our room when we were babies."
"Allison, it's perfect! I love it." I said
"Thank you.." She said crying
It was December 16th, five days after my mom arrived and three days after Anthony's mom and dad had arrived.
I got a call that Allison was in labor. I headed to the hospital after practice and she was six centimeters. Dad and the younger kids were still four hours away.
Five hours later she was getting ready to deliver the baby. My dad and siblings just showed up. An hour later, Anthony came out to the waiting room and said that Allison and the baby are both doing great.
"Als wants Ashley and Ethan back there first."
We both got up and followed Anthony. Ethan was Anthony's brother and he was going to be the godfather.
We walked in and there was my sister, holding her little girl.
"Oh my god!" I said
"Ashley, Ethan, meet your goddaughter, Audrey Elizabeth Mickels..."
"She is so beautiful..." I said holding her
"Hello, you are so beautiful my sweet Audrey Elizabeth. I am so lucky to be your auntie and godmother. You have the best mommy and daddy in the world little one.."
I kissed her small head and passed her to Ethan. I hugged my sister and said, "Congrats!"
Parents and siblings came in and everyone was so filled with joy. I had to leave to get on a plant the next day. I couldn't wait until the day that I was the one in that hospital bed..
