Chapter 3

Exams, homework tasks, assessments, and oral presentations; it all wrecked the happiness that I was having from my birthday last year. Now it’s stupid report time, it always came up way too fast. One day we would be relaxing learning about history, being lectured casually, sitting in seats paying partial attention while suddenly ‘This is going on your report’ is all the teachers say. One day carefree and the next day we all down to serious business! Sudden change much.

Yet, in a way I’m happy reports are coming, because after reports come the holidays and that means no more 5:50 wake up, no more running late when I sleep in to 7, no more dealing with Harry, no homework and no issues. Two weeks of blissful relaxation, no one to bother me except my family and actual friends.

“Grace, seriously you have to get out of that day dream and study! You’ll fail the text next period otherwise! C’mon Gracie Macie do it for me?” Lily says, jerking me from my semi-consciousness. Lily, has the darkest black hair and the palest skin I swear she could be snow white. Though her lips aren’t the colour of blood, she is a pretty damn close resemblance. (AN think snow white from mirror mirror) Her hair is so long its amazes me every single time she wears it out. It comes down her back and reaches down to her tiny waist. Lily is what I’d call petite; she hasn’t got a single piece of meat on her body. Neither good nor bad. A few people tried to start a rumour that she’s anorexic but it failed when people realised how much she actually eats. Which is a lot, but Lily is a gymnast she trains 6 times a week and I’m starting to believe she is a walking rubber band.

April and Lily are the best best friends I could have! It’s a bit of perfectionist versus rebel; April never wants to stick to the rules, which makes her the perfect musician ever. Her songs are just something you’d never thought possible with just a guitar and a voice, she’s bloody amazing. While Lily, she is our rock, you need a shoulder to cry on and Lily will give you hers, organise a girls night and watch rom coms. She is so determined, I want to steal some of it! One time last year, Lily couldn’t get this jump leap from her beam routine correct, and was getting really worked up about it. April and I we said ‘oh just switch routines or change the move, don’t stress you are incredible’ but no, Lily went into overdrive. She went to an extra 5 sessions that week, how I don’t know as she already does 6, but she perfected it within the week just to prove April and I wrong.

“GRACE STONE! Wake up.” Lily scream/whispers in my ear.

“Ouch! My eardrums! They will never be able to hear normally again. Miss Lily, you SHALL pay!” I scream getting up and chasing her around the room. Thankfully we are in study hall not some class because I’m pretty sure the teacher would have given us detentions by now.

“Noooooooo! I’m sorry Gracie! Don’t hurt me, Mitch will track you down if you lay a single hand on me you know?” Lily tries to threaten me.

“Mitchell would never have to know…” I say in a deep, spooky voice.

“But he’s my true love, don’t make me leave the world without him, nooooooo!” Lily whines.

“Oh lily for peaks sake you’ve been without your boyfriend for 10 freaking minutes, can’t you survive?” Lily shakes her head. “Oh my poor wittle lily can’t survive without her wittle boyfwend can she?” Lily starts to pretend cry. I drop her on the ground and she rolls to absorb the impact.
