Nathan was a spoiled child. Anything he wanted would be dropped at his feet in minutes. This was all thanks to his father.  Even though his father was a busy man, he was the best father Nathan could have ever asked for. He loved him unconditionally, supported his childish ambitions and scolded him when necessary. He was the ideal mother and father. Yet, it was sad that his father had to be his mother as well.

  Nathan hated his mother.

While Nathan would admit he was spoiled, his mother, Janet, was petty and so narcissistic it made him sick. His father only married to produce an heir, which was Nathan. His father thought that his arranged marriage to Janet would be more than forced love but Janet just wanted money. And it was money that she got. So Nathan had seen his mother rarely in the fifteen years he had been living. He was glad though, he never wanted to have a relationship with that woman anyways.

However, this information was slightly irrelevant at the moment. Nathan was turning fifteen and he couldn’t be happier. He would finally be recognized as legitimate son of the Nighroads, despite his mother’s ravenous ways. He was going to take over his father’s position as head of the family and owner of all the companies the family owned someday. However, tonight was the first step onto inheriting everything. Just thinking about it made him excited.

Nathan carded his finger though his blond hair and walked into his closet. He was to dress like the aristocrat he was, so it was going to be a smidge difficult. Though he was rich and spoiled, Nathan hated wearing his high society clothing. They were way too stuffy and restricted him. He sighed and pulled out a white suit, embroidered with sapphire blue lining. It matched his personality and eye color, so of course he had to wear it. He threw the suit on his bed and pulled on some sweats and a tee shirt. Once dressed, he plopped onto the couch in his room and closed his eyes.

“Master Nathan, your father calls for you in his office.” A servant told him. He had opened his eyes to look at the pretty woman before him and smiled. He didn’t really want to get up but if his father beckoned him, he would answer.

“I will be there shortly.” He replied and chucked on some shoes that were lying near him. The servant left and Nathan came out of his room. He walked down giant hallways and took a sharp turn right when enter his father’s office.

  He knocked. “Father, you called?”

There was a reply. “Yes, hurry and come inside!”

Nathan raised an eyebrow at that. His father sounded extremely happy and that wasn’t normal, the blond almost didn’t want to go in. Shaking his head, the teen opened the door and was met with his obnoxiously annoying cousin, Lenard Ray. The boy was two months younger that Nathan and had an abnormal tendency to call people his servants, even other nobles.  Nathan had learned long ago not to play with his cousin at a young age.

“Oi, servant, where is my hug?” Lenard had demanded holding his arms out. The blond backed away from the idiot and held back his urge to smack the teen in front of him.

“Who are you calling servant?” Nathan glared, clenching his fist. The other boy just laughed obnoxiously and held onto his stomach. He wiped a tear from his eye from chuckling too much and grinned at Nathan.

“Lenard, please restrain from giving your cousin a headache. He went thought a whole bottle of headache medication because of you.” Father sighed. Nathan messaged his temples and resisted groaning. Out of all the people to be in his Father’s bureau, why did it have to be Lenard? All he just wanted to know why his dad had called him to his office and why his bothersome cousin was in his presence.

“Dad, just tell me what you were going to tell me?”  Nathan muttered.

His Dad blinked. “Oh yeah, sorry about that Nathan, you do have to prepare for tonight. Looking sharp is the key to being a Nightroad man, you know?” Father grinned. “But, I called you here to tell you that your mother won’t be attending. Isn’t that great?”
