- Hey, Bun, the boss is asking for you, - a co-worker and a friend of Bunny Surslay Ann Morrison looks amazed and suspicions at the same time. – You think it’s good or bad?
Bunny looks up from her computer:
- I think we’ll find out in a minute.
Ann raises her eyebrows and calls after her:
- Break a leg!
- Yeah, I hope not, - Bunny turns one last time and smiles.
Ann giggles and shakes her head to herself.- Mr Parker? – Bunny enters his cabinet. – You asked for me?
Mr Parker looks up from his computer. His table is empty, except for it and a cup of coffee, that apparently have just been brought and light vapor rises from the cup.
- Mrs Surslay, - he nods, indicating the chair. – Seat, please.
Bunny takes a seat. She smells cigarettes. She doesn’t smoke herself, so she hates the smell. The boss must have noticed it (though she tries with all her might not to wrinkle her nose) and the next thing he says is:
- Sorry about the smell. Helps me to think.
He has an apologetic smile on his face. After some time Mr Parker continuous:
- I was thinking about important business. Mrs Sursley, have you heard about Mr Turner and his project?
- Something about making water from the ocean drinkable? Yes, I’ve heard.
- Not only drinkable, but accessible all over the world, so no man would have to die from thirst anymore.
- So it’s something like the world water supply?
- Exactly. And on Monday he’s machine is going to start it’s work. But he needs an assistant. So he asked our company, if I had somebody suitable for the job. I’ve thought a lot, Mrs Sursley. And after some time I came to a conclusion, that it should be you.
Bunny’s heart starts to beat hard against her chest. She can only stare at Mr Parker wide-eyed. The meaning of the words doesn’t want to form in her brains.
- I mean… Me?
He nods, watching her. A smile appears on his face. Bunny starts laughing. She cannot believe her ears.
- Oh, God! – she’s laughing and crying at the same time, not able to stop it.
Mr Parker laughs too:
- Go home now. Have rest and get your things ready. I’ll call you later about details.
- OK, - she manages, nodding.
Bunny’s head is spinning with delight and mere happiness. She’s going to make history. She’s going to do what she always dreamed of: to help people.
