the brits are today and i'm so excited !! hopefully all of the boys look nice

salem ended up staying the night at ciarán's, despite tavia's protests. much to ciarán's dismay, salem ended up not getting sick, proving whose immune system was stronger.

salem was giddy during the days leading up to the fourth of july. at work, her enthusiasm made itself present in the form of smiles, and her co-workers noticed.

"are you going on another date with that one guy?" anne, her closest co-worker, asked.

salem could feel all the heat in her body rushing to her cheeks and to the tips of her ears, "no, and his name's ciarán. i'm going to a pool party on the fourth of july, that's all."

"and is ciarán gonna be there?" anne asked, nudging her with her elbow.

"his friends are hosting the party at their place, so yes, ciarán's gonna be there." salem rolled her eyes. "can you tell i'm excited?"

anne snorted, "everyone can tell that there's been a change in your attitude. you seem to have a little buzz."

"what the hell is that supposed to mean?"

"c'mon, salem! i haven't seen you smile so much since the week you first started texting ciarán! obviously you've been acting different." anne cried passionately.

"do i really smile that much when it comes to ciarán?" salem asked in a small voice.

anne nodded, her lips pursed. "whenever it's our break, i see you texting him. you have a goofy grin on your face."

"would saying i have a crush on him be an understatement?" salem asked, biting her lip.

"it'd be more than an understatement, sweetie."

"happy independence day, salem mutherfreakin' chambers! let's get drunk on cheap beer today! yeehaw!" tavia bursted into salem's room, shouting in a southern accent. it wasn't a very good one, considering she was a canadian.

salem would've laughed if it wasn't for the fact that she had just woken up.

"why are you so excited for independence day?" salem groaned, pulling her pillow closer to her body.

tavia yanked salem's covers off of her, exposing her body to the bite of the cold air. instantly, salem balled up, trying to preserve the warmth she had.

"just because i'm canadian doesn't mean i can't appreciate american holidays." tavia said, putting her hands on her hips.

"i never said that!"

tavia ignored her, "besides, aren't you supposed to be excited you get to see little cici today?" she said, as if she was talking to a baby.

"oh shut up, tav. the party isn't until 3. what time is it now?" salem craned her neck to look at the digital clock on her nightstand. her eyes widened, "did you really wake me up at 8 in the morning?!" salem asked in disbelief.

tavia looked at her sheepishly, "i was hoping we could try and make red, white, and blue pancakes this morning."

salem just looked at her in disappointment. "you couldn't have told me this in advance?"

"i thought of this idea when i woke up." tavia was a morning person, and salem could be too, but tavia seemed to always be awake before her.
