Lux

We laid on Luke's car peacefully for twenty more minutes, not bothering to talk about much. Until Luke claimed that he was starving.

"Where do you want to eat?" He asked as we drove down the road.

"Oh, I'm not hungry."

"Yeah you are Lux. You didn't even eat anything when it was lunch time." Luke said.

And it was true. When he came in the library at lunch time I had nothing, like usually.

"It's okay really. I'm not hungry." I said.

"We're gonna eat at that pizza place up the road. Everyone loves pizza."

I just nodded and looked out the window smiling. Luke was a determined boy.

"Oh I love this song." Luke practically shouted turning up the radio.

The song playing was 'I Miss You' by Blink 182.

"Do you know it?" He asked.

"Yeah I love Blink." I said.

"You know, you have a pretty awesome taste in music."

"Thanks. Um you too." I said with a nervous smile.

Gosh why do I have to be so uptight and nervous. I wish I could just calm down and chill out like a normal person.

Luke started singing along with the music. I was really surprised when I found out that Luke was actually really good at singing.

"Don't waist your time on me, you're already the voice inside my head." Luke sang while drumming on the stirring wheel lightly.

"You're a really good singer, you know that?" I asked him.

He looked at me as if he didn't expect me to say anything and blushed.

"Uh thanks. I uh.. Yeah. I just love music." He stuttered.

"Any other hidden talents?" I asked him with a small smile.

"Oh I play guitar too."

"That's amazing." I said making him smile and blush even more.

"Uh yeah, thanks Lux." He lightly laughed as we pulled into the driveway.

I got out quickly so he wouldn't come to my side and open it again. It made me nervous.

We made our way into the pizza place and got a table. The restaurant was pretty small but cute. And the less of a crowed the better. Too many people makes me anxious.

Luke just ordered a large pizza for the both of us to split, which I highly doubt I'd be eating more than one slice, two the maximum.

Things got a bit quiet. And really, I didn't mind at all.

"Hey let's play 21 questions."

Spoke too soon...

"Umm ok." I said really nervously.

"Ok what's your middle name."

"Lux."

"Oh. Well then what's your first?"

"Laura."

He smiled and let out a small chuckle.

"Has a nice ring to it."

"No. It does not. Please never call me by my first name." I laughed lightly. Still somewhat hoping he would never call me by my first name.

"Alright deal. As long as you never call me Lucas like the boys do." Luke laughed.

"Ok deal. Um what do you want to be when you grow up?" I asked.

"Uh.. I want to be a songwriter. I know it sounds stupid. Everyone always-"

"It doesn't sound stupid at all." I interrupted him from going on.

"Really?" He said with his eyebrows knitted together.

"No. Why would it be?" I asked.

"I don't know. Everyone says that it's not a real job. Even my Mom, my favorite person in the world, thinks I should be a doctor or some shit like that."

"I think you should do whatever makes you happy." I told him honestly.

He stayed quiet for a moment before looking up.

"You know earlier Mrs. Thompson asked you a question in class and you didn't answer it. And since then I've been dying to know... What makes you happy Lux?" He asked me seriously.

My eyes shifted down. I didn't expect him to ask me that. Nothing right ever happens for me. What am I suppose to do? Tell him the truth? That I hated the life that I lived, that I had so many bad thoughts? That I may never be one of those happy high school girls with lots of friends, a boyfriend, and a bright future ahead of them?

I won't have any of those. And I know it. My past was so fucked up and dark that it automatically messed up my future. I can't talk to anyone, and it's not like they would even actually want to talk to me, I thought I'd maybe get a chance by moving here with a clean reputation... People in this town still may not know that I'm that "basket case" that mothers told their kids not to talk to. But it doesn't even matter. It didn't take rumors for people not to talk to me. It came naturally.

"Lux?" Luke said.

"Why are you even talking to me Luke?" I asked curiously.

He looked a bit taken back by my question.

"Because you're not like all those other girls that we go to school with."

"So I'm different?"

"Damn strait you are. But it's a good different Lux... A really good different." He said looking me right in the eyes.

"Luke. You should know that I'm not all what you may think I am. There's reasons people don't talk to me." I said to him.

"And I don't care whatever those reasons may be."

I wasn't sure if I wanted to say something back or stay silent. But it didn't matter anyways, because the waiter brought us our pizza.

Luke immediately grabbed the biggest slice and put it on a plate for me to eat.

"Lady's first." He laughed.

I smiled and shook my head.

I knew that this friendship with Luke could turn out extremely bad or the total opposite.

But either way I was afraid to find out.
