Betty Cooper

I couldn't take being held by Archibald a second longer so once the song ends I pull out of his arms and walk away

I walk towards the fish tank I used to be mesmerized by as a kid, and I think back to that, the much simpler days, the happier ones as well

I'm so caught up in my imagination that it almost startles me when I hear a male voice from behind me

"What's a beautiful girl like you doing at a boring party like this on the Northside?" asks the voice, and even if I couldn't see him I knew it was him

The guy who I was staring at earlier in the night, and when I turn around I was proven right, it was him, him with his beautiful soft looking raven locks of his, and he was standing before me, and I was standing before him looking like a total idiot not saying anything

He gives me a smile, and I give him one back

I meet his eyes and get lost all over again, in that beautiful whirlpool of color

I force myself to look away from him and his eyes and then I speak

"To answer your question, I actually live on the Northside handsome" I say

Handsome? Where did that come from?

"You think I'm handsome?" he asks

"You think I'm beautiful?" I ask

"I asked you first" he says

"No you didn't" I say

"Yes I did" he says, his shoes touching mine

I look over his shoulder and see my mother and sister scanning the room, most likely looking for me

I grab the his hand and say

"Okay you win"

I pull him with me as I walk out the double doors to the outdoor garden

"Where are we going?" he asks

"Care to take a walk with me?" I ask

"Sure but I'd like to know your name first" he says

I raise an eyebrow

"What? I like to get a girl's name first before I take a walk with her" he says

I laugh

"Oh so you've done this before?" I ask

He shakes his head

"Nope, you'd be the first beautiful" he says

I laugh

"You call that subtle?" I ask

"No I call that honesty" he says

I laugh

"Well I guess you're right" I say "you should know my name if you're going to take this walk with me"

He laughs

"That sure would be helpful" he says

I laugh

"Elizabeth" I say, but I hesitate in telling him my last name, because I don't want to be Elizabeth Cooper tonight

"What?" he asks

"My name is Elizabeth" I say "but you can call me Betty"

He smiles at me

"Alright Elizabeth" he says

"Aren't you going to call me Betty?" I ask

He shakes his head
