Chapter One
I sit in the quiet waiting room wondering about the past. I think about my mother and my dear step-father, Jacob. My mind wanders through the possibilities of what the outcome of this will be. We didn’t see the car. I didn’t see it. I didn’t see anything. I was to far behind. I was just behind that street corner. If I was faster I could have stopped them. I could have helped. My thoughts don’t slow down as I hear heavy footsteps approach. I see a pair of nice dress shoes stop in front of me. “If you are here to ask me if I’m okay, go away.” I proceed to look down at the pair of shoes.
They don’t move at all. My eyes narrow as I am ready to yell at whoever is ignoring my messages. I look up quickly only to close my mouth once I see who is in front of me. He meets my eyes and I quickly look down again. “Luna, that is no way to treat your father.” My father speaks and squats down in front of me. I look up again and meet a soft gaze. His dark brown eyes meeting my light ones. I feel a tear run down my face as he pulls me into a hug. Soft sobs shake my body as I hug my father. All of the emotions I have helded in for the past five hours finally come out right onto a 1,000 dollar suit jacket.
He rubs my back and softly whispers to me words I can’t make out. As my sobs go on I slowly drift to sleep from exhaustion.
