I hate my mother. I hate moving here. Derry Maine? More like Eerie Maine. This town will be the death of me. All the people here are weird. Especially the adults. And, to top it off my parents moved here literally on the last day of school. So you know what that means? I have to explain to everyone that my daft mother moved me here because for the first time in my life, I stood up for myself and punched the damn girl who makes fun of me for my lisp.
Emily Jones. The Queen B at St. Peters back in York. If you have one thing wrong with you, just one thing, she throws you to the curb and beats you to death. Beats you with words. Everything that everyone is thinking just doesn't have to balls to say it. And, it's not fun. Not one bit is. She always wins. I guess when I punched her, it really was a shocker.
So, here I am. First, and last, day of school. Honestly, I don't understand the point of me coming to school on the last day. All we do is basically sit there and talk to each other. But i'll be the girl sitting alone, talking with no one.
I grabbed my bag, and walked out the front door heading to school. I didn't bother saying goodbye to my mum, she wouldn't hear me anyway. So, I started walking. And walking. And walking. The houses here were just as weird as the people. Some were really old but then there would be one, right next to it, and it would be new. And the streets were named strange things as well. Who names a street Frying Pan Avenue?
As i walked towards the building, I felt something I haven't felt in a long time. Loneliness. Even back in York I had friends. Sure, we weren't the closest, but we were friends. I made my way into the building and to the office.
"Hello, Miss, I'm new here."
"Ah, your the British transfer from York, right?"
"Yes. I was wondering if I could please have my schedule?"
"Here you go." She said handing me a sheet of paper which read my name at the top. "I'l call someone down to show you around." She picked up the phone and ran on the intercom. "EDDIE KASPBRAK PLEASE COME TO THE OFFICE! EDDIE KASPBRAK PLEASE COME TO THE OFFICE! THANK YOU!" Maine sure is a weird place.... "All right, he should be down in a moment, if you would like to take a seat.
A boy, about my age, came to up her desk. They spoke to each other, she pointed at me, and he turned my way. I gave a smile in their direction, and they returned it. The boy walked up to me.
"Hey, I'm Eddie. I'll be giving you the horrid tour of our school." He said with a very monotone voice. I giggled a little.
"Hello, Eddie, I'm Ella." He seemed surprised when he heard my voice.
"So, where are ya from?" He asked.
"York. England." I said, sadness dripping from my words.
"Did you like it there?" I looked at him, surprised by his sudden interest.
"Like? I loved it. York is my home. And my daft mother decided to move here." Hatred dripped from my words at the end.
"Sorry if I upset you..."
"It's not you. I moved here because my mother thought that I shouldn't stand up for myself."
"What do you mean by that?"
"Nothing. Now, here's my schedule. Could you please show me around?"
"Looks like we have our first 2 classes together, so we can just head to class."
"Oh, Okay?"
"Okay." We headed towards a classroom, with many students in it, and walked inside. On the teachers desk, a name tag that read Mrs. Jackson, shinned bright as students past by. Eddie lead me to a group of about 3 boys, not including Eddie. They hadn't noticed us walking towards them.
"Guys!" Eddie said. They all turned towards Eddie. I don't think they see me... Eddie stepped out of the way. "This, is Ella." The three boys looked at me. One, who's glasses made him look awkwardly cute, was obviously checking me out. I got self conscious of my bony structure and crossed my arms. The other one, with curly hair looked at me and smiled. I smiled back. And then the last one stood up. This was Emily all over again.
I slowly backed away, not wanted to have to beaten up by a guy, who I know I will lose to.
"Are y-you a-alright?" He asked. His stutter making him seem incredibly adorable.
"Stay away from me." I said.
"Hey Eddie, she's just like you. Except, shes way hotter." The one with glasses said. I felt my cheeks getting warming.
"S-s-s-hut it R-Richie!" He turned back to me. "W-w-e're not gonna h-h-h-hurt y-you..." I felt as though I could trust them. Plus I don't think they'd beat me up in a classroom when the bell is about to ring. I took a step forward.
"I'm Ella." I said. My british accent seeping deep into my words as well as their minds. Bill looked up at me.
"I'm Bill." He said. The others stood and walked towards me. The one with curly hair spoke.
"Stanley." I nodded.
"Richie. The hot one in the group." I giggled a bit.
"Pleasure, hot one." His eyes went wide.
"Don't feed his ego." Eddie said.
"Sorry, love." There eyes went wide. "What?"
"Y-y-you called him 'love'." Bill said.
"I call everyone love." I said rolling my eyes at him.
"Well, okay...."
"Class if you could please settle down. Now, I know it's the last day, but..." Everyone groaned as the teacher took a dramatic pause. "We are still in school. So, while your talking, please stay quite." I like her. She has a sense of humor. Everyone started talking. "Wait, Wait. We have a new student..." She looked straight at me. "Ella would you please come introduce yourself to the class?"
"Yes?" It was more of a question. I stood up and walked to the front of the class. And every step I took was making it as though I was 30 feet more behind myself. Once I reached the front of the class, I stood there for a second.
"H-h-hello. I'm Ella." I saw them all turn to the people they were sitting by and start whispering. Then a girl raised her hand. "Y-yes?"
"Do you not know how to speak?" She asked, obviously doing it to be rude.
"Greta! Don't be rude!" The teacher said to her.
"N-no, it's alright. I'm a little nervous." I saw Bill, Richie, Eddie, and Stanley wince at my words.
"Looks like we just found B-b-billy's new girlfriend!" The girl said in a mocking tone.
I walked back to my seat with a very visible blush on my cheeks and sat down.
"E-e-ella?" Bill said behind me. I turned around. "D-d-don't let them g-g-get to you."
"I've been through worse." I turned around leaving a questioning look on their faces. And with that, I knew I had made new friends. Even better than the ones in York.
