the necklace

she was one of the most beautiful women, born like a mistake of destany , in a family of employees. she never had dot, never a way to be knonw , lovable, married to a rich man , distinguished, she end up with a poor minister employee of public instruction. she suffered , she felt that she was born to have a life full of luxury . she suffered of the poorness of her house. when she sees the little bretonne cleaning her humble home , wake in her the regrets and the lost dreams. she dreamed about the luxury of each corner in her house.when she sit at dinner behind the small round table covert with a small towel in front of her husband who ate the soup with appetite declare with an enchanted voice : waw the soup tastes so good. I don't know anything as good as this..."she dreamed about the great big dinners . she didn't have any piece of  jewelery non a piece of stone just to put on hesrelf . she was misirebale she didn't deserve this life , she deserved the life she always dreamed of. she had a rich friend , a good girlfriend , that she didn't want to see her again due to her sufferings.

one night, her husband returns home from work , he was so excited ,in his hands an enveloppe. he said to his wife :

_ take it , it is something for you

she took the eneveloppe with joy , a smile on her face , wrapped it, and found a letter with these words:

the ministry of the public instruction and Mrs george RAmponneau pray for Mr and Mrs loisel to do the honor attending the night at the ministry hotel , Monday, january 18th

her husband was sure to draw a smile on her face.in case she was so disappointed and so sad , she dropped the invitation on the table and says in a quite voice :

_ what do you expect now from me?

_ But darling , I was thinking that you will be so happy about the invitation. you never left home and I know that you always wanted a night like this.it is a beautiful occasion to attend!! I suffered to obtain this . and this is your reaction? everyone wants this invitation. it is hard to get and not every employee get this invitation .

she looked at him and said with impatience:

_  what should I wear for this occasion. I dont have a  proper  outfit _he replied: but honey, you have a dress that you wear to the theater what about it ? it looks really good on you and proper for this occasion in my point of vue..

he feels guilty , seeing his wife crying and crying. the tears flashes from her eyes to the corner of her mouth he asked her : " what is wrong? what is wrong? " but with a violent effort she replied , letting her pain in a calm voice :_ "Nothing.but I don't have anything proper to wear so I can't attend this party. take the invitation and give it to one of your colleague whom his wife will be glad and prepared to go to this occasion better than me .

he was sorry for this . he said:

_ let's see, Mathilde. how much will cost you a proper dress and shoes?wich can help you in other kind of occasions? something really simple let 's say?

she starts to think in a few seconds, calculating how much she will need . finally she replied:

_ I don't know exactly , but i think that four hundred dollars will be good. I think I will make it.

he was disappointed and sad as the same time , because he was saving this 400 dollars to buy a weapon .

then he told her :.

_ fine, I will give you this 400 $ but look for a nice dress to wear .
