~Y/N's Perspective~
I yawned, sat up, and stretched my arms out. My first full day in Castle Rock was about to begin. I threw on a pair of shorts and a shirt and walked out the door without letting my dad know; he wouldn't care anyway.
With the sun rising slowly, I walked across town to that familiar hill. I grabbed the rungs of the ladder and pulled myself up, knocking on the door lightly to see if anyone was already inside.
"I-It's Y/N." I say at the door.
Slowly, the door creaks open above me, and I see Teddy smiling
"Why are you here so early?" He asks.
"I could ask the same to you, you've been here longer than me." I say slyly
"You're right, I slept here overnight." He says in response.
I nod in understanding, and sit into a chair as the door slams shut, locking it. I look back at Teddy to see him looking at me again, the morning sun coming over the horizon and shining on his face. The salmon sky makes him look pink as he tunes the radio.
"How's your dad?" He asks, shifting in his seat.
"He uh, he's just never around is all. And when he is, he's always in a bad mood." I say softly. "I like it though, I get time to myself."
"Oh, uh, nice. It's just good to see you can get out." He says.
Teddy adjusts his seat and moves out of the sunlight, the pink still remaining on his face. He gets up out of his seat and moves to the chair set next to mine; visibly blushing. Yet, I think nothing of it and keep talking to him. I grab a deck of cards and deal 17 cards to him and myself, leaving the others in a pile on the table.
"What game is this? I-I don't know how to play that many card games." He says.
"It's Go-Fish you idiot," I laugh. "It shouldn't be that hard to learn."
He laughs, the pink deepening on his face, his sentences becoming less structured and stuttered. We play a few games while I continue to explain the rules over and over.
"No fair! You already knew how to play this Y/N!" He screeches.
"Oh come on Teddy, it's easy!" I retort.
I rest my hand down on the table and explain the rules yet again. I beat him yet again, and he slams his fist into the table, hitting my hand accidentally.
"Ah, fuck!" I yell.
"Oh god I'm so sorry Y/N, I didn't mean to." He says, sorrow in his voice.
I smile, "No it's okay, I just need to wrap it up and I'll be fine."
"Alright, alright. I think I have bandages over here" Teddy turns around and opens a small drawer, pulling out medical tape and walking over to me. "Do you want me to do it or..?"
"I can't really do it myself so, yeah." I giggle.
He steps over and bandages my hand up, being careful not to hurt my hand more. He sits back down and laughs about the whole thing, continuing Go-Fish. A few hours later, a knock is heard from below us, followed by several voices announcing their arrival. They all enter after one another, sitting down around the table.
"I can't believe you didn't even drop your smile for a second." Teddy laughs
"I-It didn't hurt that bad.." I respond.
"Wait what the hell happened between you two?" Gordie says, suspiciously.
"He hit my hand accidentally, that's all" I say.
"God no, that's not what happened at all, it was all my force, she's strong as hell" Teddy remarks.
I laugh, "It was nothing."
Chris looks over at my hand and picks it up, "You're sure you're okay right?"
"Absolutely, don't worry about me." I whisper back.
We continued playing our games and laughing along together. It was just as good a day as the last, and we had already made plans to meet up again.
"Hey, I've gotta go-- but I'll see you all later." Teddy says. "Bye Sunshine." He adds, looking at me, then promptly leaving.
"W-What was that?" Chris half-yells.
"I'm sure it was a mistake, he wouldn't intentionally say that." Lachance says.
"Alright, that's okay then." He responds.
Vern hits Chris's arm and the three of them whisper between one another. Teddy's laughter could be heard coming from the outside as he ran away from the tree house. Vern pulls me aside and very seriously speaks to me.
"Did you and Teddy do y'know... anything together?"
I sit back in astonishment, "God no, he just bandaged up my hand is all."
"Why'd he call you sunshine then?" He signals for me to answer back in a whisper.
I move closer to keep quiet from the rest of the guys, "I had the sun in my eyes while he and I were playing cards, and I lost. So naturally, I blamed it on the sunshine; he mocked me."
He nods his head, "Alright. I only asked because we just met you and didn't want Teddy getting involved." He laughs.
The two of us rejoin the group on the other side of the room, joining in as they sang along to the radio in the background. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Vern whispering to Gordie, but think nothing of it.
As sunshine turns to moonlight while we spend the day laughing, one by one the guys leave, until it's just me and Gordie. He and I play a hand of black jack in silence before he looks up to me and speaks.
"It's nice to know someone new. It's almost refreshing." He smiles, sliding me a card.
"Yeah, I've never been close to anyone since I'm usually distant." I sigh.
"Hey, at least you've got us now, we do all sorts of things. I'm sure we're all gonna be really close after a bit of time." He responds.
Truth be told I hadn't really thought of Castle Rock as a permanent home until this moment. The moment where I knew that I belonged somewhere where I really loved being.
"Hey-- thanks for letting me hang out with you guys, I wasn't sure if you'd want me being around you all the time." I say softly, flipping my cards.
"Don't mention it," Lachance whispers. "I think they like having you around."
"Really?" I say excitedly.
"Yeah-- they don't see girls too often, you're really throwing them for a loop." He bursts out laughing.
"Oh, of course." I giggle. "I better be going, but I'll see you tomorrow right..?"
He smiles at me. "Wouldn't miss it for the world."
