"I can't believe we're in 10th grade now!", April said as she walked into class. Her and her bestie, Gemma, were put in the same classes again, this making it the 5th time. "And we're still in band. Did you change your instrument?", Gemma asked, because she needed someone to assist her. She wasn't as good as April was, but she was descent. "No, I'm still playing a clarinet. I wouldn't be able to play a different one."
The bell for 1st period rang.
April and Gemma walked across the whole school just to go get to band. They were put in the back of the 10th grade hallway, where only the smartest kids are. They did there same normal routine; get your instrument, set it up etc. After they warmed up, Gemma saw this new girl come in and sat down next to April. Gemma wasn't so surprised because new kids walked in all the time. But it was weird that she sat next to April and immediately started talking to her.
"Ok class, the Black History Month performance is February 21st." Black History Performance! Gemma had completely forgotten about that and started panicking when she first heard the news. "Make sure your parents sign and return this by Friday. If you can't come, it's better be a valid reason why." Gemma was panicking all over again, but she expected April to calm her down, like she usually does. But, no. She was too busy talking to this girl.
The bell rang to go to second period.
"Hey, April. Who was that girl that kept talking to you?"
"Oh, her. Her name is Emma. She's one of my friends."
Gemma obviously felt really lonely and left out in band class, but she didn't tell April that. But it just got worse.
After about a week of this 'Emma' girl being in band, the band teacher asked April to teach her how to play a clarinet. Gemma was shocked at the news, so when the bell rang, she put up her instrument and ran out, all the way to P.E. She was so glad it was Friday.
On Monday, Gemma asked to hang out after school with April over text. She texted back, "Oh, sorry Gem. I'm hanging out with Emma today." Gemm was furious. April had never said no to not hanging out with Gemma.
After that day, all April kept doing is bragging about how Emma was doing better than her. It kept happening. Over and over until the point Gemma deleted April's number.
It was Saturday. Gemma woke up from a dream about the girl she liked. April was the only one to accept her for who she is besides her mom. When she walked downstairs, all she saw was glass everywhere near the front door. To her surprise, it was April and Emma who threw the rock through her window. Those fucking bitches. Gemma felt betrayed, like her heart got ripped out of her own chest by April. Her own bestie became her bully
On Monday, April nor Gemma talked to each other. April did the same bragging on and on and on about how Emma was better than her. It got to the point where April started writing things on her desk like ,"Who's ever gonna love you?", and, "You just another one of those disgusting homophobes." Gemma felt awful. She went home that day, thinking so poorly of herself, thinking why does she have to be lesbian? She decided to do something about it.
At the end of class, when April was bragging to her, Gemma cut her off.
"Ya know what, April? I've had enough of your bragging. What happened to being besties for life? You turned into my bully!" Gemma was on the verge of tears now. "You were the only person to ever accept me for even being lesbian. You were the only person to ever be there for me, but that's was just a waste of time apparently." And with that being said, Gemma's sadness turned into anger. She ran towards April and smacked her across the face with her clarinet. It left a good-sized bruise on her cheek. "I still can't believe that we were even best friends." Gemma stormed out of the band room. 'How come the teacher didn't see that?' She wondered.
Gemma returned after missing a whole entire week of school. She has got suspended for what she'd done to that bitch April, but she didn't regret a thing.
It's now been five months since that incident, and Gemma had new best friends who like her for being a homophobe or not. She's even dating the girl she liked!
As for April, she tried to continue to ruin Gemma's life, but has failed.
